Why are we being too hard on P & the new CD, After 30 years I guess it's hard to say something musically new? looks like after the leak [Warning: Do NOT ask for PE boots - luv4u]there is a growing concensus that despite only having 10 tracks on there he has managed to Royally fuck up in his song selection [again!].Instead of 9 or 10 stellar trax [i.e. Purple Rain, ATWIAD Prince etc] he's opted for the usual mix of styles with limited success [how can a 10 track CD have fillers!!]
Anyways, do you feel that we really are expecting too much now?, 30 years in and he really has done it all. Anything that comes close to say P Rain or the SOTT cd will just be viewed as a retread. Maybe we should be thankful for the memories, relish the fact that he's still the best live act on the planet and enjoy the 2 or 3 gems that make it through on each CD. The alternative though is to wonder why the hell someone so gifted has made so many bad album decisions!!. | |
