Stuff I think we can agree on...

It seems like PE is turning out to finally be the "throwback" album people have been waiting for, in terms of the "it factor" his best work has had. The songwriting may not equal some of the best stuff of the past, (that might never be possible), but it seems like over the past three releases, Prince is slowly regaining some of the creativity and "intangible" magic of the earlier classic albums. There seems to be a fun and care in these songs that in my opinion has been missing.

I think most people can agree that PE is an extremely solid collection of what Prince does... Can't wait to have a pristine copy!

I personally definitely see the momentum has really been building ever since "Musicology." I don't think there has been this much Prince momentum amongst hardcore fans and the general public since the 80's. The 90's were for the most part a decade where only the hardcore fans were into Prince. At least that's how I see it.

I think a lot of people will disagree with me, but (apart from about 3 lesser tracks) IMO its a better album then The rainbow Children.

Both have a more organic, semi-live sound, but TRC has a kind of dark, opressive atmosphere (and some awful lyrics and the annoying deep voice) that i find disattracting to listen to.

This album is almost the yin of the yang TRC is (or is it other way around? lol), i mean: its also colourfull in its arrangements, thought out, but much lighter, like Prince is much more at ease with himselve. He sounds 'in balance' as a person a lot more. Happier also.

Well, i certainly agree but then I think just about anything is better than TRC, That 'organic' sound is the only thing it has going for it, imo.

Man, I don't know. I don't think Prince can ever win. Planet Earth is a good album like mostly every other Prince album. I like it, but at the same time I want "more." I was feeling nostalgic and reading old Prince albums reviews on http://princetext.tripod.com and Prince has faced mixed reviews ever since Around the World in a Day. Even Kurt Loder mentioned on his "SOTT" review that he wants "more" from Prince, and with someone of Prince's great genius, why doesn't he just "go for it?" Even after albums like ATWIAD and Parade, many viewed Prince as like a cartoon character. Lovesexy had many bad reviews. Etc, etc

I do think this album has a lot more color to it, in the melodies, the lyrics, the vocals, the production, than any of his albums in a very long time.
