First, I think this is a good question,because if people are afraid to talk about the issue of suicide then they aren't dealing with it. If you don't deal with something, then it can grow out of control.

And B, I seriously hope Prince has not ever attempted suicide. He has so much beauty and insight to offer others. Everyone has valuable gifts to offer!

I don't think he has attempted it, but I do think he has contemplated it. Prince seems to be someone who feels things very deeply and he has also seen his share of hardships in life.

Going back to his first few albuma there are songs about feelings of deep dispondancy - such as So Blue[i] and [i]Gotta Broken Heart Again, there are also later examples such as Solo and There is Lonely.

It has been said that Depression is anger turned inward. I'm thankful that Prince vents his emotions through his music - both his anger at himself or the anger, frustration or love he feels towards others. The point is he gets these feelings out of himself, where they are managable and can be less destructive.

It really can be very healthy. But even with all Prince lets out, I think he still holds a lot back, and that can get dangerous.
(See new Thread) If everyone followed the example that Prince uses to deal with his feelings...and processed their emotions through artistic/creative endeavors - would we have as many suicides, murders, mental and emotional illnesses, or wars?

Just so everyone knows though - whatever you may think of Natasha, this thread doesn't necessarily break the forum rules. If you look past all the BS that has been said in this thread, there is a seed of a reasonable topic of discussion there: examining the theme of suicide and depression throughout Prince's lyrics.

I'm of the opinion that instead of reacting hysterically to an unfortunately phrased question, we're better trying to see the value in the question and making a discussion out of it. It's unfortunate that people chose not to do that and instead focused on flaming each other.



Lastly - only two people reported this thread to me, so as far as I am concerned only two people had a problem with it I don't mind if people don't like a thread, or are offended by a thread, but that in itself isn't grounds for deleting it. There's no point giving the moderators a hard time for not deleting a thread which doesn't break the rules and hardly anyone has complained about
