The Vault Do any of you think that Prince has plucked a few of the tracks on Planet Earth from the vault. I haven't heard PE or Somewhere here on Earth yet but from what i am hearing they sound early Prince.

[b]No I think he is in a very happy place at the moment and it's all new.

Hehehe, this is a fun topic.
I have been saying for ages that Prince has not been writing new music, just rehashing old stuff and this is why we never get a second Crystal Ball, lol. We all know Prince re-works old stuff. Songs to go to the wringer over and over again; We Can Funk, Can't Stop, Feel U Up, Irresistible Bitch, Come, Gett Off. Prince revisits old haunts over and over again. A seed is planted in 1983 and it comes to bloom in 1989 (Feel U Up). Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. And indeed. Some of his recent work does sound a bit dated... but that might be because of the fact he is allowed to use his own past styles.

He might have but what's the difference?

Of Course, he wrote all his songs in the early 80´s and are using them until today.

Hooray! It's the 'are these songs really new?' thread that we also had for 3121 and Musicology and will probably have for each Prince release from Planet Earth onwards.

ya know, i can see why people say these things tho. honestly, from the trax i've heard which are the first 6 songs on the album, it doesnt sound like the Prince of the recent past. these sounds sound classic, whereas much of musicology and 3121 didnt have that sound (imo). Planet Earth (title track) totally reminds me of his 93-94 ballads, guitar (same era but rock), somewhere and future baby mama (early 80s), the one u wanna c (later 80s revolution), mr goodnight (1995 18 & over kinda vibe)...these songs are way more exciting than his recent output. so either A. he's VERRRY inspired at the moment, in a way he hasnt been the last few years, or B. he's using some vault trax that he wrote when he WAS inspired. either way, the record is fucking FANTASTIC and i'm thrilled with what I've heard so far. Could be true. Future Baby Mama could have easily fit on Emancipation.
