Still, the entire album has an entire different feel to it than most his albums. It looks like he made more of an effort to give the album an overall feel.

And it is way more melodic than his previous albums. I love the way it flows. Like I said, a grower.

I don't know, Musicology, 3121, and Planet Earth are all pretty good albums. You can put all 34 tracks together and see they're all quite similar. I don't hear anything much different in any of them. They're all pretty solid all the way through, recorded all the same way, besides Prince throwing in a few clunkers on each even though he has better tracks lying around, which is the only explanation for sounds like Life o' the Party, Incense and Candles, and Mr. Goodnight.

Planet Earth (the song): wow beautiful rock opus, great piano and guitar 9/10
Future Baby Mama: best Prince song in a long time, Linn + vocals are great 9/10
Guitar: okay song but not very original 7/10
Somewhere Here On Earth: great if you like jazz, Extraordinary/ Crucial 7/10
The One U Wanna C: doesn't even sound like Prince, more like a bad ELO song 5/10
Mr. Goodnight: no no no, Prince is rapping, really bad, a filler 3/10
Prince 4Ever. heart

Wow, i have another favourite next to Somewhere on Earth.

Resolution!

A catchy, breezy pop song like i never heard from Prince before, much more fluent then Cinnamon Girl or Little Red Corvette for example, a surprising little gem.

8,5/10!

And another very nice one! All the midnights in the world, 7,5/10

A bit too short, and not as strong as Resolution.

But these are some of the strongest popsongs he has written in YEARS!

It sounds like he has found new kind of inspiration in listening to The Beatles, or so. Those two songs even remind me a bit of one the more joyous moments of one of my favourite bands. Crowded House.

They sound fresh and new in a way they are less direct and pompous then a lot of his other songs in this vein. Subtlety comes with age, i guess biggrin

(or maybe he should thank Wendy and Lisa.. lol)

I just heard Somewhere Here On Earth on Emancipation Radio and I loved it... best so far.

I also really like Future Baby Mama.

Guitar took a long time to grow on me and I think The One U Wanna C is having the same effect.

Haven't heard any other tracks yet so can't wait for next Sunday... Don't know how you lucky people have heard 'em.

Another short impression.

Chelsea Rodgers, a mixture between late seventies disco-coul and, yes, ska-like guitarwork.

A bit like Jamiroqui jamming with a ska band, immediately catchy, very nice.

And Shelby indeed sounding like Mavis Staples a lot on this track.

Not the "Funk" i hoped for, but a sunny poppy dance song. Could be a huge clubhit.

7,5/10

Last one wink

Lion of Judah

Umm.. i am not sure what i think about this one. It sounds a bit like a less 'lumpen' Cinnamon girl, but it has a strange kind of melody, or its the way Prince it is singing, that i cannot really get into.

Not bad, but sounds a bit like 'filler' to me.

Umm...right now: 6/10

Planet Earth 9

He's condensed his 'Strays Of The World', '3 Chains O Gold' and 'Empty Room' type songs into this masterpiece.
This song could also close the album. It's BIG Prince! And it's pretty darn good.

Guitar 7

Fantastic pop that we've all heard right now and it really does make me pull an 'air guitar' face and rejoice in it's downright 'Princeness'.

Somewhere Here On Earth 7

Yep, it's Power Fantastic meets Insatiable and it works well. That said, it sounds very 'new'.

The One U Wanna C 7

'I Like It There' redux and it sounds fantastic!

Future Baby Mama 6

We've heard this now and if anybody hasn't, then it's worth saying that it's one of Prince's better whiney ballads. Actually, I wouldn't say it was whiney at all. Lovely melody.

Mr Goodnight 7

There's a 'What Do U Want Me 2 Do' vibe here and the whole song makes you want to sway left to right when listening to it. File under 'groovy'.

All The Midnights In The World 8

Why have people been looking down on this song? A nice, 'Strollin'-esque tune. A lovely, simple, straightforward song that shows off Prince as a song-writer.

Chelsea Rodgers 10

Hell yeah! Everything everybody's said about this song is true.
The best 'For You' out-take you could possibly hear and has a similar vibe to the Scissor Sisters' 'Paul McCartney' song. This is Prince at his finest.

Lion Of Judah 8

Very, very reminiscent of 'In2 The Light' from Chaos & Disorder and that's no bad thing. Melodically similar to 'A Million Days', but without the over-produced sound. Love the guitars at the end.

Resolution 8

The first line of the lyric doesn't exactly give off a good vibe (tack-o-rama), but the song itself is like an uptempo version of 'Reflection'. Nice closer.

Remember that this is very early going:

Planet Earth - 9.5

Guitar - 7.5

Somewhere Here On Earth - 9

The One U Wanna C - 8.5

Future Baby Mama - 9

Mr. Goodnight - 6.5 (at least it's better in context)

All The Midnights In The World - 7

Chelsea Rodgers - 8 (I think this might go higher when I hear it in better quality)

Lion Of Judah - 7.5

Resolution - 9

Overall - 9 (The consistency of the tracks lifts the whole album. Can't wait to hear this in CD quality!)

we're in for a treat! bring on the rest of them bitches!

k, i listened to the other 4, in the bad quality version going around. glad to have them, though!

now... i'm not as enthused about the rest of it, actually. it could be the sound quality. it could be the sun scorching my face. it could be that i was pissed off because they guy and the kid i'm staying with are complete fucking pigs and i was cleaning up after them for about the 3rd time today. but anyway, here are my tentative ratings for the other 4:

All The Midnights In The World - 6 ... weakest on the album. it's nice enough, but it never gets off the ground for me

Chelsea Rodgers - 7 ... this one would be higher, but i sort of started tuning it out halfway through because almost the whole thing is the flying squirrel singing. she's good, but this would be a lot higher if Prince was singing it. it's a nice combination of Love and Just As Long As We're Together, but with, you know.... a bassline.

Lion Of Judah - 7 .. not sure what to make of this one. could go up or down.

Resolution - 7 ... it's nice, but he's really on some cornball shit here lol music/production/lyrics.
