Planet Earth - 9. Great song
Guitar - 7 Good pop tune. Probably fits well in the album.
Somewhere Here On Earth - 9.5 One of his most sensual ballads ever. The vocal treatment is very well done. Extremely sexy. It's like a mix between something from PARADE and Emancipation.
Future Baby Mama - 8. Standard Prince ballads he can write in his sleep. But the vocals and vibe is smoother than anything he's done in years.
The One U Wanna C - 8 standard pop song. Infectious though. Feel good song
Mr. Goodnight - Haven't heard this one yet. lol

.....can u say more about the Planet earth song Pleaz..imago!

ok then...REMEMBER THIS IS FIRST IMPRESSIONS OF SOME OF THESE TRACKS..

PLANET EARTH (8).....GREAT ROCK OPERA SONG WITH UNUSUAL BRIDGE...i know its all been done before but you could say that about all music

GUITAR (6).....I LIKE IT , A BIT LIGHTWEIGHT BUT WILL SOUND GREAT LIVE..

SOMEWHERE HERE ON EARTH (7)....A LOVELY JAZZY MOOD SONG

THE 1 U WANNA C (8)....GREAT ROCK POP SONG, SINGING THIS ALL THE TIME....could be called a bit corny but i love it

FUTURE BABY MAMA (9)....HIS BEST R&B SONG IN YEARS ! KILLER TRACK

MR GOODNIGHT (3)....MID TEMPO LAID BACK RAP FROM PRINCE...NOTHING GREAT

SO I LOVE ALL THE SONGS APART FROM MR. GOODNIGHT...I THINK ITS SHAPING UP AS A CRACKING ALBUM AND IF CHELSEA RODGERS IS AS GOOD AS FANS ARE SAYING THEN IT WILL BE BETTER THAN ANYTHING HE HAS RELEASED SINCE THE EARLY 90S...

Planet Earth....an eeriness, sombre building to a rock - manic track only to return to Prince's lone voice and piano. Fantastic track 10/10

Somewhere Here On Earth...beautiful lyrics and delivery. Horns subdued and not overplayed. Laid back, jazzy, breezy ballad. Certainly reminds me of earlier lush ballads. Wonderful 9/10

Guitar...U know the rest.....7/10

Mr Goodnight. Light rap track, easy rnb flavour. Nothing mindblowing but ok. 5/10

The One U Wanna c - Love this track. 2nd favourite after P.E.. Rock track touching country. Strong vocal delivery and real grower. 9/10

FutureBabyMama- not usually a 'fan' of rnb stuff that I hear right now. But this track has me hooked. P's voice is exceptional here. Strong hook and , agian, real grower 9 wink /10

Nice, nice, it could indeed have a bit more passion in the delivery, but, wow, when he tores out in that guitarsolo: goosebumps! I cant remember having goosebumps while listening to Prince 'on record' before in the 21th century.

if he makes a song like FBM, it's bullshit. Let that for someone like Mario to make. neutral

the beauty of being a P fan is that he's so diverse that there's enough skillz for everyone to like something. so i'm sure u'll keep your "standards" and like what you like, but i suspected the hate to come from many based on the title alone for FBM. call it "juvenile", (i've called it "ghetto" myself) but given the phrase "baby mama" is permanently in our lexicon now, i think it's CLEVER on his part. he needs some "help" connecting with "urban radio" due to their insanity.

the title gets THEIR attention and makes them at least want to listen. and though its somewhat familiar content (i say somewhat because he hasn't talked about the similarity in the looks of past lovers b4 to my knowledge) the arrangment and vocal delivery quickly separates it from ANYTHING juvenile, or anything someone like Mario could EVER do.
[Edited 7/6/07 23:58pm]

I haven't heard the song but when I read your "hasn't talked about the similarity of lovers' looks", I immediately thought of Bambi.

"I had another lover, she looked just like you"..... maybe I read it wrong and you just meant in awhile.
"Why'd I waste my kisses on you baby?" R.I.P. Prince You've finally found your way back home. Well Done.

Planet Earth. Too much rehash. Resembles 3 Chains O Gold's sound and template so much it bugs me too much to take seriously. Like another Orger said; it sounds too much like a copy of a copy of a copy and the ink is running out.

Hmmm, I was thinking more of a "Strays Of The World" meets "She Gave Her Angels". I don't think PE really has the operatic, all-over-the-map quality that really typifies 3CoG.

The juvenile title for one.

And just really everything. I do like the sound of his vocals on the song, but that's it ... and they are wasted because he's not saying anything.

The sentiments -- we've heard them before -- and much more convincingly and artistically. This is just a walk-thru performance. Nothing to see here.

Agree 100%.

----

And to answer the OP:

Mr. Goodnight thumbs up! Love it! 8/10 (I'm probably the only one who love this song, but whatever, different strokes, right?)

Somewhere Here on Earth / The One U Wanna See tied for second. 7/10

Planet Earth a distant third. 6/10 only because the music is nice. The lyrics are too sappy and cliche for my tastes.

Guitar (album version): 6/10 Slightly lower than the previous three only because I like the version we downloaded in February better. If that version was on the album, I think it'd be above Planet Earth at least.

I think SHOE, TOUWC, Guitar & PE will grow on me, but right now they're boring to me.

Future Baby Mama pooptoast 3/10 Hate the title, hate the lyrics (esp. the chorus), I cannot stand this song. (Most any Prince "song" will qualify for at least a 2 from me because it's Prince. Prince segues get 1/10. lol)

Somewhere Here On Earth - 7
Future Baby Mama - 7
The One You Wanna See - 10
Mr. Goodnight - 8 (But can I ask why he totally lifted this off of Notorious BIG's One More Chance? They sound exactly the same.)

This is all based on hearing most of this for the first time. Albums need to breed. All outa 10

Planet Earth. 5
Guitar. 7
Somewhere Here On Earth. 9.
The 1 U Wanna C. 7. Is growing on me, Nathan.
Future Baby Mama. 6
Mr Goodnight. 7. What we call a guilty pleasure already.
All The Midnights In The World. Not bad, not really thrilling me either. 5.
Chelsea Rodgers. My lyrics were better. But niiiice. 8.
Lion Of Judah. Better rock than Planet Earth. 7.
Resolution. 8.

Overall, Prince is using his new falsetto and his new brand of rock. I like. Better effort than the previous albums. A grower, I think.

Chelsea Rodgers starts with a beat that sounds like 18 (R U Legal Yet?) and the bass makes it funky immediately.
Prince's voice opens the song, a bit robotically. Then Shelby cuts in. The guitar is VERY disco indeed.

It is a bouncy song. The horns are what spell disco too. Tres dancable.

The overall feel to the album spells Neon Telephone to me.

It is nice and laidback. My instant like is Somewhere Here On Earth. I also love Resolution. Dunno why yet.

Still, the entire album has an entire different feel to it than most his albums. It looks like he made more of an effort to give the album an overall feel.

And it is way more melodic than his previous albums. I love the way it flows. Like I said, a grower.
