Guitar 8
Somewhere Here on Earth 8.5
1 U Wanna See 8.5
Future Baby Mama 8

Overall, the most consistent bunch of tracks we've heard in a LOOOONG time, but nothing is completely blowing my mind yet. (That said, at this point in his career, I'm overjoyed with the consistency).

Planet Earth - 10 (It's like Prince took a time machine into his past and future all at once)

Guitar - 7

The One You Wanna See (I have a problem writing Princebonics) - 7

Future Baby Mama - 11 (on a scale to 10, and I'm serious)

That's all I've heard. 7 isn't a bad rating, as both are growing on me.

Ok , now I've heard Mr. Goodnight, which I like, a LOT. I give it an 8, and I think I'll end up liking it even more after more listens. I don't understand the negativity about the track, it's very catch and has a great vibe. One thing that makes it even more exciting is hearing it in the context of the other tracks I've heard. There's a good variety of moods, styles and vibe on all these songs, and I really enjoy hearing as all these puzzle pieces come together.

The juvenile title for one.
And just really everything. I do like the sound of his vocals on the song, but that's it ... and they are wasted because he's not saying anything.

The sentiments -- we've heard them before -- and much more convincingly and artistically. This is just a walk-thru performance. Nothing to see here.

But I'm extremely critical and judgemental of Prince.
I have a condition called jilted, bitter fan syndrome.

I used to be such a rabid die hard fan ... and used to quote Prince lyrics "like he's Rev. Prince" according to one annoyed ex-boyfriend.

So because of my condition I expect transcendent, kick-ass stuff from PRince and am rarely satisfied (but strangely I liked RAVE and 3121 lol )

I'm trying to get over this, but that would be like losing my religion or like a a kid giving up his belief in Santa Claus.

I mean Prince IS GREAT right, well, if he makes a song like FBM, it's bullshit. Let that for someone like Mario to make. neutral

OK. I just heard PLANET EARTH -- 7.5

He clearly puts a lot of effort into this song.
It reminds me of something maybe from THE TRUTH era. But it didn't affect me and draw me in. And something about it felt derivative.

It was like I'm supposed to feel all his emotion here, but it just feels superficial -- but then the end comes and that fuckin' guitar is so great. And I FELT that. So, 75

It would have been a 6 w/o that great ending. And I love the final sounds.

That's my favorite album listen so far.
It's possible this could grow on me much more.

I really really like Somewhere Here On Earth. Its a nice combo of old school prince and mature prince.

Hell even the lyrics aren't as cheesy as they usually are.

cool

the beauty of being a P fan is that he's so diverse that there's enough skillz for everyone to like something. so i'm sure u'll keep your "standards" and like what you like, but i suspected the hate to come from many based on the title alone for FBM. call it "juvenile", (i've called it "ghetto" myself) but given the phrase "baby mama" is permanently in our lexicon now, i think it's CLEVER on his part. he needs some "help" connecting with "urban radio" due to their insanity.

the title gets THEIR attention and makes them at least want to listen. and though its somewhat familiar content (i say somewhat because he hasn't talked about the similarity in the looks of past lovers b4 to my knowledge) the arrangment and vocal delivery quickly separates it from ANYTHING juvenile, or anything someone like Mario could EVER do.
