Commercial breakthrough..."1999."
Album of the decade..."Purple Rain."
Masterpiece..."SOTT."

On no album did he bring everything together better than "SOTT." Even more amazing is what could have been...the original "Crystal Ball" album would have been one for the ages...hard to believe that some of the songs he left on the cutting room floor were of that calibur...just amazing.

Tough call, but my answer for today is 1999. One reason I feel it's his masterpiece is because it was his bold "breakthough" album. A double album filled with pop, funk, electronic music, soul, ballads and some very unusual and experimental stuff. It was, and still is, a bold statement from an artist who had yet to break through to superstar status.

Yeah, I know I said "bold" twice, but I feel it's appropriate.

ATWIAD should b included- for the sheer guts it took 2 release something so different after PR, especially after the success PR enjoyed-IMO

it has some great tracks- Raspberry Beret, Paisley Park, Pop Life, America

others in no particular order
1999
PR
Parade
SOTT
seems that i was busy doing something close to nothing, but different than the day before music beret

Christ lol

That's impossible to pick.

I mean I love Parade, SOTT, Purple Rain, SOTT, prince, and Gold.

ALL of them have flaws, and ALL of them blow me the fuck away at times.

If I really had to pick, I'd say Purple Rain, even though SOTT is the obvious critic's choice. Purple Rain is 8 songs of relentless GAWT Damness.

I love Prince. lol

I used to skip it alot.

The first few times I heard it, I was thinking WTF? This is a stupid ass song. The little loungey sound, the wierd vocal treatment, the overly gay vibe. But after a few rotations, I started to think it had a smoothness to it. And then I started to picture Prince singing it directly to me, in a little french maid outfit, with his little doe eyes, his cute little perm, his soft, supple , full lips, his caramel tan skin, his fuzzy chest leading down to his nappy... erm.. where was I confuse Oh yeah, I like the song enough now. shrug
