The Rainbow Children. How is this better than Gold?! Are you people insane, sure its musically rich but where the fuck are the songs. They're aren't any. 1+1+1=3 is a poor Erotic City. The final two songs sound like something off Christian TV. Gold is dirty as hell, its a album in the true spirit of Prince. It's all over the place, flashy as hell, often stupid but so damn entertaining. It's like a great hollywood blockbuster. TRC is some pretentious indie flick.

I'll have to say Gold this time. While I think that album rocks pretty hard, and I enjoy it very much, it may be the least ground-breaking of the ones left. I know there are a wide-variety of opinions on TRC, but personally I think it was a significant change of direction for Prince, especially compared to what came before, RUTJF. Gold, imho, is similiar to the other albums he released around that time.

I guess you had to be there. I liked 1999 when no one else I knew owned the album, and when Purple Rain was released, I wrote a review for school saying it wouldn't do as well as 1999.

I beg to differ! "1999" is the album that got me into Prince. It has never ceased to amaze me. Does it make me a brainless follower? No! It simply is what I believe to be one of his greatest efforts and it suits me wonderfully! I'd say the albums that many people are afraid to dislike are "Purple Rain" and especially "Sign o' the Times." Remember that thread started by foxylee about hating SOTT? Good lord she got ripped! But in my opinion, any Prince album has at least some merit, so why not celebrate the diversity of opinion?
