Controversy

Is Prince a Repressed Bisexual edited due to being blown out of proportion. Now a Controversy-appreciation thread:

Does someones sexuality make any difference to how talented they are? No!

Does it really matter, even if he was?

That his problem with marriage? Wouldn't think of it, but go back to the late 70s and 80s and early to mid-90s, interesting activity there.

Maybe he is repressed and that is showing in his lifeless music now?

Yeah.
That's gotta be it.

Good call.

I think it could. If someone was repressed, it could affect their creativity.

What's with the homophobic replies, I never said I would care..., only if it made his music suffer being in the closet.

I dont think that 'so called' problems with his bisexuality are reflecting on the quality of his music, i think that has to do with other personal aspects of his life.

And, yes, i personally think he is a bisexual, that he has slept with both men and women (early on in his career alltough), but that he in general is attracted to women more then to men and that he has recognised that.

I think you can compare him to David Bowie in that essence, Bowie has had his share of 'homosexual' experiences in the past, but feels connected to women in the first place.

Both are no 'macho's' or 'homophobic' men in essence, i think, they just use their 'feminine' aspects to express themselves artisticly and personally, thats all.

and... when it comes to the repression-aspect:

I personally think it has more to do with a person who hasnt completely dealed with his inner demons.

I mean, when i listen to songs like The sacrifice of Victor and Papa, and when i recall his interview with Oprah Winfrey, i see an individual struggling with the results of a troubled childhood and physical abuse by his (step)dad.

When i listen to the Rainbow Children i hear a person with inner demons trying to 'control' them with faith for the JW-teachings.

Personally i think that a lot of Princes 'weird moves' in his career (his overblown reactions towards WB, the slave period, his NPGmusicclub period when he was 'hiding' himselve for the mainstream public, the flirt with the JW) have a lot do with his psychological state of mind.

I think his sexuality mostly offers 'relieve' for the other choices in life he is dealing with.

Inspired

An Aside: Hey Rockability, I like Hall & Oates too! ^_^

Also, it's pretty obvious Prince likes boys and girls (Anna Stesia and other lyrics come to mind). I have no problem with that. I get called gay for liking Prince! It really matters not, I know who I am.

What I think though is that Prince unfortunately struggles. That could be why he's such a brilliant mind. I write songs and poetry but nothing of the calibre Prince writes. I hope he finds peace.

I wouldn't care if Prince was gay or bi. I just want him to keep making music. And to be happy. He deserves it.

Repressed bisexual?

Depressed asexual?

Impressed contrasexual?

Suppressed intrasexual?

Couldn't care less ... it's his life.

Question; What makes u believe P has been with men early in his career?

He does not have a fucking clue. It is P's business if this is true but, don't any of you think someone would have spilled the beans a long time ago.

P has said on numerous interviews that he is not gay. He has not treated people well. Let's be honest if you wanted to bring him down putting it out he is or was gay would do it. Trust me plenty of people have been burned. Someone would have put him on blast a long time ago.

Sorry but because I think the topic is silly does not make me or anyone else homophobic.

As an African-American I take offense to this as it would imply that I have a bias against gay people. I don't care if P is gay. I just don't buy that he has been for 30 plus years and it never came out in the public.

Just does not seem possible and I do think it is wishful thinking on the part of some orgers. Which is fine. We all can have our dreams.

Laura I didn't even read your comment so I'm not accusing YOU of being homophobic lol But there are some comments on this thread that are flat out homophobic - those are the ones I was talking about. & I too think the thread is goofy, I said that hammer Have a wonderful day! biggrin

Liberace never came out.

Alot of stars never came out. Alot of stars who don't wear high heels, makeup, silk stockings, and long permed hair.

These things of course don't make the man gay obviously--but dismissing any iota of a thought that if it looks like a duck, etc. it must be a duck, is kind of closed minded. shrug

I am not against gays, just the thought of Prince touching some man's candy cane is something that I could'nt get use to.For any of you I offended, just know that I am a transexual. Meaning that I was born male and live my life as a female, and I am attracted to men.So if you are homo I'm on your team. No need to get to get upset.

I've only recently in the last 2 years actually understood anything at all about transgender people. The embarrassing thing is that it took the movie "Boys don't cry" to drive the message home to me.

But why do you find it unnerving to see Prince in that light?

It's kind of like thinking your father is straight, but then seeing a whole different side of him.
