ownership "O" masters

As long as Prince has ownership of his masters he will never have the exposure he deserve from a major label. If major labels do not get the lion share of the profits then dont expect them to go all out on a promotional campaign.Prince is now pretty much an independent artist.

i seriously think it's about time for prince and whatever exec
it is at this time that he needs to deal with to burry the old
hatchet and move on.

for an artist who's renowned for caring about his music and all
the things that surround it i'm simply amazed that he can sleep
at night knowing that his entire back catalogue is in stores in
a soundquality seriously sub-par to what it could be this day n
age.

i'm sure he and whomever has the other legal hand in his music
from the WB period could come to some sort of arangement on it
in terms of how it's produced and distributed.

perhaps allowing them to remaster and re-release his catalogue
would even open up some doors to regaining some of his masters
in an agreement to give most of the $ made from the remasters
to WB or to only allow them to remaster the music if they did
him a favor in offering him the masters for sale or something.

the way things stand now it seems like we'll never get to hear
his music in full glory, updated to the latest standards cause
they simply can't reach mutual ground.

and that's a damn shame.

i understand him wanting to focus on the now and on his new n
fresh music and that's all fine, i like that.

but meanwhile his legacy is gathering dust and sounding more
and more lousy with every passing year. it's really over due
now. it's about time someone made the first step and sorted
this whole mess out.
and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Do you really think Prince would give up ownership of his masters willingly, ever?

I tend to agree with Isten.
I would love to hear the old stuff remastered and/or (really wishing) in 5.1 surround sound. Never say never, but it aint gonna happen anytime soon. I'll just wait on The Beatles catalog which seems will happen soon.

It's pretty obvious, isn't it?

The greater a commitment you make to someone to enable them to profit from you, the more they will market you to maximise their earning potntial. Prince knows what the deal is and judges it accordingly.

he's getting paid from those records. and he'd be getting paid after they're remastered and we all bought them again. what's your point?

Knowing Prince, he probably considers that his old albums r OK the way they r & by the way u know how he is when it comes 2 his "the past is the past" motto.

when it comes to re-mastering/re-releasing them, i sure hope that's his attitude, because there better not be any censored or re-recorded lyrics neutral
