3 Reasons I still dig Prince

1. He isn't a nostalgic cartoon of his former self, unlike Elvis was and Michael Jackson is.

2. Although "The Rainbow Children" was heavy on the salvation , in many ways Prince's sound is more mad/insane/sick than ever. "The Rainbow Children" album makes "Emancipation" seem very regular and sane.

3. People complain about Prince not dancing enough on the One Nite Alone tour, but he is concentrating more on the music and the passion like he used to. Don't believe me? Watch the performance from 1983 at 1st Ave, in which he debuted the "Purple Rain" material. It is a passionate/thrilling performance and he moves around less than he does on the One Nite Alone tour.

4. He isn't a lame "pop" act that is all smoke and mirrors. He is one of the last few Rock N' Roll icons that are still funkin' it up.

TRON

5. He never leaves you waiting too long for a new release like many of his contemporaries- jacksons, shitney, sade, george michael, the boss, peter gabriel, etc. Not that these are his peers but artists who've had a similar level of success and hit their commercial peak near the same time.

1. He still has the element of surprise. I like that in any artist.

2. He's a better musician than he's ever been before, and he was never shabby before.

3. Although I think he should improve in some areas business-wise, his current independent stance is admirable in the scheme of things.

4. Schlong.

5. He's Da Man no matter what the time, space, or sound he's doing. heart
There's always no less than 3 songs on an album that he makes that even if U cant stand it, those three got U nod
4 example, I cannot stand Emancipation but "Somebody's Somebody" "One Kiss at a Time" & "Face Down" got me!!

1. He puts me into a trance, especially live... especially when you are only a few feet from his physical presence. rose present heart

2. He instills within me, questions of life... his music/performances truly stimulates my mind (beautifully). rose

3. His music seeps effortlessly from within his inner soul, to see and feel it is absolutely amazing... it's beautifully captivating.

My 3 reasons are:

1 The Music is still hot
2 He's still exciting and seeing him live is amazing
3 He's "Prince" again
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

This is exactly why I love TRC...I'm not down with his religion and all that but man is that one trippy ride...what other artist out there has the balls to put himself/herself on the line like that...everything out there is so fucking predictable...

SKYWALKER - I think you're so right about the 'cartoon' aspect. I'd never thought of it in that way. Styles may change but one thing you can ALWAYS say about Prince is that he has remained true to himself and always lived for the now. Period. That's why I love him so.

I wonder if this is why he went through the name-change thing in the early 90's? He has mentioned in interviews that he felt the 'Prince' (of old) was becoming a parody (all that gangsta & bling bling stuff).

Perhaps he felt he HAD to go through the whole O+> period to re-assess himself; to get back to being a true original.
I love him, whatever.

But his stage presence had much more energy and ANIMATION then than the ONA tour has! No, there may not have been a whole lot of choreography from the 1983 gig, but there was plenty of passion and animation coming from him that you just do not see or hear on the current tour!!

i like him cuz he still comes up with a good song now and then. i'm not into raibow children that much, but muse 2 the pharoah is a good song. i think the high album is really good. i love silicon, my medallion and u make my sun shine. he should have released that album instead.
I woke up sunday morning with no way to hold my head that didn't hurt
