Does Prince Support Black Radio Stations? What are your views? Does Prince support black radio stations?
Before Princes tickets went on sale for the 70707 concert, the white owned radio stations here in Minneapolis were given tickets for a giveaway on the radio. They were able to do this all the way up until the tickets went on sale. Well just this past weekend one of the non-profit black radio station received the opportunity to give some tickets out on the radio just a week before the concert. Why weren't they able to have the same opportunity as the white owned radio stations. My question again is does Prince support or give the same opportunity to all radio stations? What are you views? i think the only radiostations prince picks are the ones that have done
him some good or have dj's he likes etc. that's the way he always works. even with magazine or tv interviews or performances. you should know better than to think prince would willingly support a white radiostation instead of a black radio station simply because of the color. that's just rediculous. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Yes.
My answer is yes. Did I win? Am I the fourth caller?

Do you really think Prince is calling up the promo department and setting up giveaways?
Prince's promo people are going to give him the greatest exposure possible. If it happens that the larger station is owned by a white person how is that an issue of race? It is an issue of ownership and promotion. If the station that could give Prince the largest boost was owned by that freaky squirrel with the bug eyes that hangs out around here, they would be giving out tickets on WSQL. Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it. |

But sadly the Black Radio stations where I'm from support crap like Young Jeezy, Lil Wayne, 50 Cent, & all other crap far more than Prince. So I wouldn't be surprised if he over looks those stations 4 the stations that actually play Musicians.

The station is a non-government, non-profit that can only sustain its airtime by the community, donations, promotions or sponsors that is willing to support the station. Without the support of the community it would not be able to survive. There are other famous people from Minneapolis that has supported the radio station in order to keep it going. So what is wrong with the same opportunity that the other stations are receiving?

The people that do make the call don't care about supporting the community, they are employed to give Prince the greatest exposure possible. 3. If they are non-profit, a ticket giveaway promotion is no benefit. They would need to auction them for operating capital. An increase in listenership does not help unless those listeners are giving them money. 4. It is not an issue of race. Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it. |

Are you talking about KMOJ? Is that station back on the air? I know it was down for awhile. Also, if it is KMOJ, she's right, they've always supported Prince. But I remember back in the day that even the MN Twins baseball games used "Delerious" as an intro to the post-game show. Used to be everyone supported Prince in MN. I rarely listen to the radio now; when I do it's usually 89.3 the Current - they sometimes play Prince, and the new stuff too, though not often and he doesn't really fit thier demographic (Public radio; Caucasian, wanna-be indie-hipster). Anyway, hope KMOJ is back and that the Mary Tyler Moore statue on Nicolett is replaced with one of you-know-who.

Shouldn't the question really be, "Does Black Radio support Prince?" For the most part, I don't hear him on the radio, but I guess I would have to listen to know, uh? "A united state of mind will never be divided
The real definition of unity is 1 People can slam their door, disagree and fight it But how U gonna love the Father but not love the Son? United States of Division"

mars23 Nothing at all wrong with the same opportunity. I'm just saying:
I agree with what you are saying that is why we have to voice our oppinon about how the non-profit oranizations are being treated and hopefully Prince will get the message.

I don't see many Black radio stations promoting Prince's music like they use to, In Philly it's the younger artist and the hip-hop crew same way with 3121. But they were all over Musicology, the concert and everything. Something changed but I don't know what

The keyword for some of those radio station is R&B, not hip hop. There are still some black radio stations that play R&B and will still continue on playing Prince, but where is the support by Prince.

Unfortunately, as you are all painfully aware, Black stations too often run when they hear a guitar, even though they were in large part responsible for the development of Rock ‘n’ Roll (just ask The Beatles and The Rolling Stones for a list of their heroes). And White-owned Clear Channel conglomerates too often run from R&B, soul and funk – hell, anything that doesn’t have a damn nonsensical hip-hop “featuring” element all over it.

KMOJ is great, but I guarantee that if they had as much money as, say, KDWB, they’d have to gain it very slowly by being just as awful.
This is how money works. You rarely make it by playing what’s right. Why else are all the great stations barely audible outside the most populated areas? That’s a deeper issue. As has been said before, Prince’s people are just playing the exposure game. That’s what they get paid to do. On a personal level I’d support independence over exposure, but that’s why I will thankfully never gain employment here. I've got editing problems (always)! [Edited 7/2/07 19:23pm]
