The intro sounds a bit like "Silly Game" minus the cheese. The instrumentation is very "When 2 R In Love". Very late 80s, when Prince was still taking the minimalist route but the music was becoming less edgy and more slick esp. with his ballads. "Journey 2 The Center Of Your Heart" is also a distant cousin. And I can only guess that the inspiration is from Chaka and Rufus's "Sweet Thing" with the lilting melody in the verses.
