95.5 WKYS in DC gets love from Prince because the biggest Prince fan of them all,. Donnie Simpson, hosts the moring show on that station.

Please. Donnie may be a fan but he mostly plays old stuff. If it hasn't charted somewhere or is being played excessively by the competing station 93.9 Donnie doesn't really play new Prince stuff. But, low and behold when P comes to town they're giving away tickets and playing... the old stuff. The exception in rencent years would be the 3121 album which he played on the air when it came out.

Here in Minneapolis Prince would do test songs that haven't been released on KMOJ to see what people think about the song and he would get some good and bad results, but the main thing is that the radio station supported him and all of his work. So I don't see why KMOJ didn't receive the same opportunity as KDWB and B96. B96 doesn't play any of his music all they play is hip hop nothing else. Now KDWB which is Clear Channel always plays his old music, nothing updated.

Remind them from time to time about Robert Johnson, Lightnin' Hopkins, Buddy Guy, T-Bone Walker, Jimi Hendrix, B.B. King, Chuck Berry, Eddie Hazel, Bo Didley and Prince -- just to name but a few.

These legends knew that they were playing a musical instrument; not a white one.

Just keep doing what you do and you will be the one reaping the benefits.

Ignorance never did a damn thing but roll over and go to sleep.

Thinks this thread has more to do with how some black people feel in life, how they deal with racial 'issues', then it has anything to do with Prince.

Does Prince support black radio stations?

Before Princes tickets went on sale for the 70707 concert, the white owned radio stations here in Minneapolis were given tickets for a giveaway on the radio. They were able to do this all the way up until the tickets went on sale. Well just this past weekend one of the non-profit black radio station received the opportunity to give some tickets out on the radio just a week before the concert. Why weren't they able to have the same opportunity as the white owned radio stations.

My question again is does Prince support or give the same opportunity to all radio stations? What are you views? hmm hmmm

Where do you find out which radio stations are owned by whites and which ones are owned by blacks?

What constitutes a "white" or a "black"?

What black radio stations? Do they even exist anymore? All I ever hear from so-called "black radio stations" that play current music, is shit hop. Shit hop is as slow a tempo as Lawrence Welk so the stations sound more like white folk's stations to me. Not even cool white folks either. More like the old fuddy duddy kind that thought fast rhythmic rock and roll back in the 50s was "devil music". lol
Andy is a four letter word.

The ones that I know of that are white owned is Clear Channel and KDWB. The black radio station that we have here is KMOJ and that is owned by the Community Development (Community sponsored - Black)

You would have to find out in your city or town which are black and white owned. As for me here in Minneapolis I know who owns what.

When have you heard just a white radio station play just R&B songs and nothing else in between some hip hop and black Gospel music? If there are any white owned radio stations that would play only that type of music that would be a rare case.

People who own radio stations are in it to make money. Whatever type of music they think makes them the most money is what type of music they will play.

From Wikipedia:

Stations that carry programming catering to black Americans are a big part of many Clear Channel clusters, particularly Philadelphia, Chicago, and Detroit. In many clusters Clear Channel has two or more such stations. About half the Urban stations focus on Rap and Hip Hop along with younger R & B sounds. The other half blend some younger R & B along with some Soul from the 70's 80's, and 90's along with some current product. Some of the Hip Hop based Urban stations report as Rhythmic Top 40 stations rather than Urban stations because these stations also have some appeal to white and Hispanic listeners. In a cluster with multiple urban stations owned by Clear Channel, one is focused on Rap while the other is focused on Soul. Examples include Philadelphia, with WUSL's focus on hip hop while WDAS-FM focuses on Soul, and Chicago, where WGCI focuses on rap while WVAZ is focused on Soul.

So, does that make those stations "white" or "black" ?

Well here in Minneapolis Clear Channel does not own the "real" black station here and the station is not out to make a profit like other stations are, so I would think that the non-profit stations should have the same opportunity as the ones that make a profit.

Yes it has been said, but the ones that have supported him all the way, they should have had a better opportunity.

The so called ones that "support" him, only play the radio friendly hits from the 80's. They never play anything current or from the 90's.
I once requested Somebody's Somebody by Prince they were like "Somebody's Who?, Prince is still making records?"
eyeah...

I understand where you are coming from and fortunately KMOJ is a test pilot for some of his new songs. So they have played some of the songs that wouldn't get played on other radio stations.
