Does Prince support black radio stations?

Before Princes tickets went on sale for the 70707 concert, the white owned radio stations here in Minneapolis were given tickets for a giveaway on the radio. They were able to do this all the way up until the tickets went on sale. Well just this past weekend one of the non-profit black radio station received the opportunity to give some tickets out on the radio just a week before the concert. Why weren't they able to have the same opportunity as the white owned radio stations.

My question again is does Prince support or give the same opportunity to all radio stations? What are you views?

i think the only radiostations prince picks are the ones that have done
him some good or have dj's he likes etc.

that's the way he always works. even with magazine or tv interviews or
performances.

you should know better than to think prince would willingly support a
white radiostation instead of a black radio station simply because of
the color.

perhaps large stations with lots of cash just secure some tickets and give
them away for their own promotion and self glory?

Prince's promo people are going to give him the greatest exposure possible. If it happens that the larger station is owned by a white person how is that an issue of race? It is an issue of ownership and promotion.

If the station that could give Prince the largest boost was owned by that freaky squirrel with the bug eyes that hangs out around here, they would be giving out tickets on WSQL.

1. I do not think Prince is making the call.
2. The people that do make the call don't care about supporting the community, they are employed to give Prince the greatest exposure possible.
3. If they are non-profit, a ticket giveaway promotion is no benefit. They would need to auction them for operating capital. An increase in listenership does not help unless those listeners are giving them money.
4. It is not an issue of race.

But I remember back in the day that even the MN Twins baseball games used "Delerious" as an intro to the post-game show. Used to be everyone supported Prince in MN. I rarely listen to the radio now; when I do it's usually 89.3 the Current - they sometimes play Prince, and the new stuff too, though not often and he doesn't really fit thier demographic (Public radio; Caucasian, wanna-be indie-hipster). Anyway, hope KMOJ is back and that the Mary Tyler Moore statue on Nicolett is replaced with one of you-know-who.

95.5 WKYS in DC gets love from Prince because the biggest Prince fan of them all,. Donnie Simpson, hosts the moring show on that station.

I don't see many Black radio stations promoting Prince's music like they use to, In Philly it's the younger artist and the hip-hop crew same way with 3121. But they were all over Musicology, the concert and everything. Something changed but I don't know what

This is how money works.

You rarely make it by playing what’s right. Why else are all the great stations barely audible outside the most populated areas? That’s a deeper issue.

As has been said before, Prince’s people are just playing the exposure game. That’s what they get paid to do.

On a personal level I’d support independence over exposure, but that’s why I will thankfully never gain employment here.
