I wish I could get my hands on an official 10-minute version of this track. That would be perfect for this song. When I'm putting the extended America on compilations or re-creating my own version of ATWIAD, I always save that track for last. And fade out where I need to for time limitations. It's so long and repetitive that you can fade it out anywhere, really That's a great idea, but it doesn't work when in Shuffle mode. Of course, neither does playing things in their chronological order. [The ORG is going down on me edit.]

To me, of the singles, Paisley Park holds a special place. It was on the tape that became the soundtrack to a defining period in my life, where I became much more of a firm personality, but still capable of losing myself in ways that are lost to me now.
Paisley Park, with it's somewhat weird vocal intro and it's extended guitar-solo laced with soundscapes had to power to stretch time. It's seven minute playing time seemed to stretch out longer, as I felt every note in that guitar solo and my soul resounded to every soundscape. And Prince's voice spoke to me; I believed his plea for love and peace of mind. His lyric made me contemplate a place inside of myself and that guitar solo was the sound that guided me there. A special gift in a rather tumultuous time in my life and probably the song that grounded my lasting love for Prince's voice and makes me, to this day, keep an ear on his output, even though his current day message does not speak to me at all. And, as I am rather pleased with myself for having put these feelings to words in a way that seems apt, I will save them, before Org zones out again and I lose that lengthy post like Nathan did.

Perhaps it's because there's more music there to dilute the Tony M. Parts. He becomes 15% of the song, instead of 25% Yeah, I can understand that. And I must say, even those this collection is a lifetime in the making, it'll never be perfect. Over the years some tracks might be added, others might be deleted. Making the right adjustments hopefully comes with both wisdom and age. But it's pretty close or I wouldn't be posting it in a public forum. tell me about it. I'm a compilation-making genius when it comes to pretty much any artist. btw, also on that tape, amongst others;
Madhouse's extended version of Six, Prince & The Revolution's extended version of Girl (b-side to America and probably my favourite extended b-side along with La, La, La, He, He, Hee), Sheila E's Shortberry Strawcake, Alexa De Paris and Cameo's Word Up. It was, to quote Phillip Pullman, the year that dust settled on me.

Well I'll be damned. This should be saved. Tomorrow, if I can find the words, I will declare my undying love for Girl. I love that song so much it hurts sometimes. It perfectly fits the loneliness I was going through at the time, then took on a whole different meaning when I kissed the first person I ever loved that loved me back. The yearning in Prince's vocals on that track; I suspect he recorded that song all on his own in the studio, just imagining what he would do to the girl he wrote this for. But it totally matched my mood at the time. I love most stuff he released during that time; he took his time on those tracks, let them breathe, like the songs on 1999, but sprinkled with that genius touch he still had then, just getting almost everything right. Every sound on those Revolution albums was RIGHT and sounded natural, however whymsical it all seemed at times. Not like those boring endless shallow jams that he pumps out these days. He can still stretch a tune, it just misses the depth he still had back in 1985. Oh man. Now I am homesick again.

Nobody cares if I screw up, but it's still not right.
In my rush to throw this together as a "Best Of" all the non-album tracks, I left off "How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore". It has been corrected for perpetuity. That was amazingly thoughtful and well said. I feel the same way about the extended version of Paisley Park. I really, really do. I've been thinking about putting a CD together to give out next year at my 40th...and while Prince will be all over it, I planned to stick to songs like Doves and Kiss, etc that most non-fans know and like. However, Paisley Park meant so much to me I feel like I must include it. I'm thinking maybe the last track.... Problem is I don't have it on my PC- only vinyl and my old cassette copy. Ask where they're going, they'll tell U – "Nowhere"
They've taken a lifetime lease on Paisley Park ...

And I knew I should have stuck exclusively with the extended versions, as I had those down pat. I'm not home at my computer until Sunday, so I have no way of checking (unless it just pops in my head like the evil forces of Greystoke).

I remember getting the Sign The Times 12" and looking at those iconic pics of Cat and the beautiful art-design by Laura LiPuma. Then I saw the title... La, La, La, He, He, Hee (Highly Explosive) And I was hooked instantly after hearing the that doggie-beat. After the severness of the A-side, this song totally gripped me with it's relentless fun and total funk workout. Still love it to bits.
