Little harsh maybe? I was just listening to Future Baby Mama and some of the lyrics are "None of them got what it takes, to be a future baby mama" the "none of them" are his ex-lovers, of course.
Isn't that a little harsh on Mayte considering past events? Maybe I'm a softie, I don't know..

How does it not have anything to do with her when he's addressing his ex lovers?

I think he means more that they are exactly what they are...ex- spouses or partners...none of them have panned out or lasted and it's not that he didn't love or care for them but none of them were ultimately the right person for him or one of them would still be with him. He gets it! That's why the ladies love him...

if he's calling this one just a "future baby mama" and not wife, then I'm guessing he's not expecting this one to pan out either. but he's just trying to get into her pants like all the others, and this one might hit the jackpot and get pregnant with his baby "Half of what I say is meaningless; but I say it so that the other half may reach you." - Kahlil Gibran

I'm not sure of the exact meaning of "baby mama" but if it's basically a "single mother...never been wed" then I'd fit under that title. He gets it! That's why the ladies love him...

Every song Prince sings does not have to be about his life, many guys could apply the song to themselves while singing it/ What the hell is wrong with people?? A girl could change the words and be singing it to her guy. [Edited 7/3/07 2:58am]

[Edited 7/3/07 2:58am] I didn't think it meant him. The 1st time I heard it, I thought of a guy meeting a girl and thinking, "U have the qualities that make me want to raise children with U. U'd be a good companion and mother". Nothing more. I thought the title was a little [over-used phrase] 'ghetto', but that's what I heard... "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing. I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..." -Cher, "Woman's World"

Isn't that a little harsh on Mayte considering past events? Maybe I'm a softie, I don't know.. Not all lyrics are autobiographical... Just because a song Prince writes speaks about "past lovers", doesn't mean it refers to his. In fact, I would say that most "love" or relationship songs do not refer to an actual person, but are creative takes on an emotion. I often see posts entitled things like, "Who is "Guitar" about"?", when it's probably about no one. [Edited 7/3/07 5:09am]

But obviously she didn't have what it takes to be a future baby mama. "Half of what I say is meaningless; but I say it so that the other half may reach you." - Kahlil Gibran

But obviously she didn't have what it takes to be a future baby mama. Ummm, not "didn't" but "doesn't"! Considering the fact that they are no longer together and she went to Tommy Lee after Prince! Hell, I think my odds are better at having Prince's baby than Mayte's is at this point!

Which, of course, leads back to the fact that Prince needs to get out around real people once in a while. Fame and the Hollywood Fishbowl can skew anyone's perceptions if they're in there long enough, and let's face it, Prince's grip on reality can be tenuous to begin with.
