The first time I heard "Do Me Baby" back in '81. It sounded like it came from another world. I loved Controversy a lot, but Do Me Baby was unreal. It got me laid for the first time too...

It was Do me Baby for me too. Can't say that it got me laid wink , but when I first heard it I had never heard anything else like it and I was hooked from that moment on.

When I saw the Sign O' the Times tour in Paris. That was the sickest musical mastery I have ever born witness to.

For me, probably Another Lonely Christmas (full-length version). You could tell it was Prince playing all the parts, but it felt like a full band, all having a real, transcendant musical moment together. I thought, 'how the hell did he get this vibe playing one instrument at a time??? Which did he record first? Which did he record last?'. Absolutely incredible.

I urge any orgers only familiar with The Hits/B-Sides version to seek out the full 12" cut.

Oddly, it was when I first heard 'Damn U' at the 1992 concert in Manchester. I was a little older and out of my teens and it just blew my mind that somebody who'd come up with the body of work that was Diamonds & Pearls the autumn before could come up with something so lovely and so different than what was on D&P within the space of a few months.

I seriously don't think many other mainstream artists could do that.

Trying to figure out the synth chords to "1999". Everything I tried just wasn't working, even though I knew I was playing the right notes!. Then I realised it was actually the combination of the different chords being played by the guitar that made that line 'work'. I was like: "How does he make something so simple sound so ... fantastic?!"

i hadnt really heard much Prince stuff till my dad took me backstage to one of his shows... and when i saw him playing Purple Rain in front of me i think that musically scarred me forever, ive listened to that song frequently ever since.. aswell as the purple rain album and also watch the movie still heh. (ok the acting is a bit shoddy in places but all of the music is fantastic biggrin)

When I made the deliberate effort to compare Prince to all the other musicians, composers, songwriters, singers, performers, etc. There is nobody out there that would even come close when compared to Prince's artistic aptitude.

Very good question.

I've known Prince since I was a kid, since 1999/Purple Rain, but never been really into his music.

I realized that Prince was a musical genius, when one of my best friend told me how Prince could play all the instruments and compose all his music (Back in the day, I thought he was just a guitarist)

When I discovered all his discography, all the instruments he could play and all his concerts. I realized that he was much better than what I thought.
