Somebody's Somebody

Is the song "Somebody's Somebody" on the Emancipation album a cover song?
If so, does anyone know where I can find the original song?

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Derek's version was actually intended for Exodus.

so it's from 1994.

interesting note, this song was either co-written or outright written by (i can't remember) by someone outside of Prince's camp. they wrote Hide The Bone as well, IIRC.

So that means he has had other people writing a song for him on a new album?
Isn't that weird. I don't think he has ever done that before, has he?

shrug check the liner notes. they were either written or co-written with 2 other people. one of them (i'm not sure which) was, i think written solely by them.

k. how about Hide the Bone? my CD's are in another state, or I'd just check it myself.

i beleive hide da bone was written by BLE and HW as well... I didnt know that Somebody's Somebody was not written by Prince until now. I know that Soul Sanctuary wasnt written by prince either..

The thing I dont understand is why these credits are not on the record?

'Somebody's Somebody' is attributed to prince together with Brenda Lee Eager and Hilliard Wilson.

'Hide The Bone' is similarly attributed, but with the other co-writers receiving credit specifically for the 'original lyrics'.

'Soul Sanctuary', mentioned above, was based on an original compostion called 'Sanctuary'. Sandra St Victor, who shared a tape of the original songwith Prince is mentioned in the 'Emancipation' liner notes, and the original songwriters who contributed to 'Sanctuary' are now credited for copyright purposes at the Library of Congress (although originally overlooked). Prince justifiably receives a co-credit because he provided original work towards the composition featured on the released version.
