I think it sounds okay. I think it was a relatively conservative remastering.

what aabout let's work? That sounds really squashed and loud

I'll have to check it out and compare to The Hits (which I think was just normalized?)

So lemme get this straight... the 2nd disc with the 12" mixes was remastered as well?

PLEASE post the wave files

for ultimate or for the fan remastering? With the fan remastering, I meant that it was much more than just EQ and volume tweaking that was done. If it's the one I'm thinking of, there was a reference sound to try to reach, there was two passes of multiband compression, and there was testing in different environments like the home and the car.

Here's the Ultimate comparison:

That wave honestly looks like they did nothing more but put the file into a mastering application, and amply the gain using a clip guard.

yes it is considerably louder; not better though. The originals are more dynamic in most cases but a couple sound cleaner such as LRC

What do you want? Rectangular waves like 99.9% of todays horrible sounding music?
DYNAMICS is what it's about. Ultimate doesn't sound great to be though; it does SOUND squashed although the wave file may say different
