Housequake are saying that it will be given away in the UK with a Sunday newspaper.

Can you imagine that this counted towards sales! 4 million copies of the CD out there.. Brilliant marketing ploy. Album will debut at number 1. Millions of people potentially could hear his new CD.

Well he had (at least) over thirty songs recorded. It surprised me that it was only 10 songs after knowing this.

OK, I can see this happening. He was prepared to give up to 400,000 copies away for free anyway, in the UK. So it COULD be possible that, the feeling is that not many more than that amount will sell in the first couple of months anyway, going on previous record sales. So perfect promotion for the upcoming gigs and a great way to get people listening, who would never have bought a Prince record. Good boost for him in the long run, and get him seen in a 'good light'

I also beleive there is a little bit of "lets see what people think of it", pull the plug and re-issue type of thing. I think the general message is that "Guitar" and "Future Baby" are OK, but there are some weaker songs on the CD... He will probably either remove them or add other songs as 10 songs was always a little short...

In all likelihood, this is related to a scheduling or manufacturing situation, a change in Columbia's release strategy or some other business related issue. IMO, there's virtually no chance that the album's content has anything to do with what's going on.

Maybe its because this whole Verizon / Guitar thing isnt panning out like they thought it would (at least here in the US) . Its getting no radio attention since being released to radio on 6/11.

Looks like they are changing strategy.

Sony UK have cancelled their contract with Prince in support of retailers, because of the newspaper giveaway.


That's why it's no longer showing up on UK retail sites.
