Why are so many hysterical about a NEW album coming out, when I KNOW that many of you don't own a lot of his old albums???
I know many of us have everything we can get our hands on, but some of you have like 4-5 albums!! Sorry, just don't get it!

There are a bunch of Prince albums I don't own, and I'm very excited for Planet Earth. I haven't been into Prince since birth, I've only the last few years really gotten into his music. So it's exciting that there's something new coming out now that I'm a fan and can actually get into it right away. It's the same thing with other bands, for instance, Aerosmith, that I love that have been around longer than I have.

Probably bcause the last few haven't been the best.. I'm guessin'

I have them all, with pride. And I always get excited to await a new cd, I can't wait to play it over and over and over, I dissect it, song by song..many times I only like a few songs, then I'll just listen to those. After a few days, I will add another song to my rotation and so on....good times are coming soon!!

I would be more excited about getting hold of Prince,Dirty Mind,Controversy,1999,Parade,Lovesexy, etc. for example. MANY newer fans don't own any of the essential stuff, that's all.

Because people always long for NEW stuff. If it's new, they wanna have it. Even if I have more than 20 albums (which isn't much compared to many of you guys) I still want the new cd. Because it's new and fresh. Music that I haven't heard over and over again. Simple as that.

It's so weird when I hear of a Prince "fan" that doesn't own all of his albums. How do you live with yourself not owning ALL OF HIS ALBUMS within about 2 months after you got/heard your first one?


It's so strange to me. But maybe I'm just ill like that.

This sums it up for me. Loved Prince when I was young, but after I had
children, I really didnt want to be playing my CD's. Now Prince is, for
the most part clean,therefore, I can jam out with my kids and its all good. I am officially an old fan, a closet fan, and now a new fan for sure. Circumstances really. btw, Do I listen to the old stuff when I am by myself?

People's frames of reference are different.

Where you start with Prince and where you end up is different for everybody.
Prince has been around for a long time. Not everyone could buy his albums sequentially.

For a lot of people "new" Prince was their first Prince. While some of us older folk may find that inferior, it's a simple fact.

Besides, your post doesn't make sense. A person can't be excited about Planet Earth because they don't own Dirty Mind? They'll get there, give them some time. I think it would be interesting to be introduced to Prince "out of order" because it would allow you to decontextualize the music and not get caught up in any particular hype surrounding the albums release.

alright, I should have edited my original post, but it's more like, "hey, I got musicology and 3121 and I just can't wait for the new one, I have no intention of buying anything else, but I'm his BIGGEST fan ever, he's so sexy" maybe that's the bottom line.

I'm guessing most (not all) have been fans of his for less than 5 years or so. So yeah that would explain why they are hysterical about getting the new stuff. They can enjoy it and experience it the same time as us fans that have been following him for 20+ years now.
