Mixing/editing Prince songs.

How many of you do it? I mean, I do it ALOT, lately. First it began with re-tracking the Parade CD, as the intro of Life Can Be So Nice on the original CD had the nano-second of Girls & Boys still attached. So once I started doing THAT, I had to do every album I love; Lovesexy, Controversy, Purple Rain and then some more.

While I was doing that, as I am prone to make LOADS of playlists, I bumped into Do Me Baby. Great song, but the bell interlude at the end took the flow outa my playlists, so I edited it that of.
And when I was playing my Prince ballad playlist, I thought I Love U In Me sounded just a tat slow. So I sped it up. I kinda think it sounds better somewhat quicker.

Mixing; like mixing New Power Generation Pt 1 & 2 or Sade's Sweetest Taboo and Brand New Orleans into one longer song.

Editing; like cutting Tony M's rap outa Sexy MF.
Or mixing that missing intro beat of 777 9311 back.
Or cutting off Ooh She She Wa Wa's intro talking (turning it into a segue)
Or cutting off the introi talk of Pheromone or Race, making the song just start with that beat.
Or taking the outro of U Got The Look's extended version and stick it onto the album version, of which I always hated that fade out once I heard the magnificence of the outro of the extended.

So, for you who do mix/edit, what is the thing that worked best for you?

Sometime shortly after Musicology came out, I was doing a lot of this, because I was putting together a "best of"..... well, it ended up being 8 discs, even though it was all single edits and my own edits. biggrin Needless to say, 8 discs was a bit out of hand.

Anyway, I made a lot of really awesome ones. So many, I can't even begin to tell you all of them.

holy shit hamsterhewy! I am right there with you. I am an editing nut! nuts
Many of the cuts you have described I have done.
Yeah, Tony M: wave I have cut him right out of Prince's music.
Same goes for most of the rap in Prince's music. I just cut it
right out. Like Joint 2 Joint: the version I listen to has no rap part
in the middle and it sounds like it never even needed to be there in the first place.

Examples

Parade album
Add Kiss (Ext) then cut the "talking/yelling end" off
And mix into Anotherlover

U got the look
Leave the (Ext) Begining & End part.
But cut out the Middle (Ext) part

Ive played around with
Started with....Sexy Mutha (clean)....
And about half way mixed in the dirty version

Take this Beat
Right after he says "give Me the Keys, Ohh lord" part
Cut out the I Wish U Heaven vocals part out (about a minute or more)
And mix it to the end of the track

but the funny thing..i do this and then never play them
Love Life,
Love God,
And Only Do Drugs You Need

Pity Darth Jehovah can't be edited/mixed out of the Rainbow Children - then it could be really listenable.
