Is Prince turning into a nostalgia act? Seeing the set lists over the last year, it makes me wonder if Prince will ever write any more classic songs.. Most of the classics he's playing are decades old now and it's getting kind of sad.
He's a big celebrity again, and he's still the best performer ever, but I'm really starting to think his trend setting days are over... ______________________________________________

Well, people always complain that his current stuff doesn't sound like the old stuff and demand older hits, but if he plays too many classics it's washed up. Sounds like a catch 22.
I think he's still very much so capable of giving us something good

I think he's still very much so capable of giving us something good I agree happyhappy...name ONE artist that has been around 25 plus years that sounds the same as they did when thet first started out. Every artists goes through roller coaster rides during their career and P is no exception. The fact that he's still here all these years later when a lot of his fans NEVER experienced his hey day of 1999; Purple Rain etc. says a hell of a lot.

I think people are just scared that if his new cd's aren't up to par with his most sucessful stuff, he's fading or losing it and he'll stop. It's just anticipation. Besides, people thought Bob Dylan was done and awful when he started using an electric guitar

Prince has been a nostalgia act for a decade now. "Half of what I say is meaningless; but I say it so that the other half may reach you." - Kahlil Gibran

Paul McCartney's last two albums are better than anything he's done in nearly 30 years. I hold out hope Prince can return to writing great music, I just hope he doesn't wait as long as Paul did.
Which is not to say Prince hasn't done some VERY GOOD music recently. Fury live is one of my favorite songs and Black Sweat would have been, if not for the annoying synth part. [Edited 6/26/07 0:12am]
