Do you remember what the early fan reviews of TRC were like coming from the listening sessions at the 2001 Celebration? If not, let me remind you that the album was repeatedly labeled "a disaster," "unlistenable" and "the worst thing Prince has ever recorded." The online Prince community was in complete meltdown.

Of course, today, a sizable number of fans say TRC is among Prince's very best work and it's all over those "what are your favorite P albums" threads. The moral of this story: wait to hear "Planet Earth" for yourself — and then listen to it a few times — before drawing any conclusions about its merits.

Peace.

PS: I'm also reminded of Kurt Loder's review of "Purple Rain" in Rolling Stone, in which he commented that the album probably wouldn't match the commercial impact of "1999." lol

I tend to stay away from tracks that get all HYPED up like a chelsea rodgers, i have a feeling it will be one of my least favorite tracks on the record for some reason. Im also glad that Prince is cutting the song times down, he on occasion has a habit of ruining a GREAT song with an unecessary solo, case in point "The Holy River" amazing song, should have been cut down, that added part at the end of it on the album is one of the worst things ever and ruined the song, which is why i cant listen to the album version. I like Prince jamming, but in concert. Im anxious for this record mainly from what im hearing from others, i like the fact that CHAOS has come up alot in reviews, this is an album that to me was one of his best, but is almost hated by everyone, and i have never seen a good review for it in print, and i have seen some ZERO's in print for it, including the NY daily news when Jim Farber gave him a Zero for it, and then 4 months later gave Emancipation five stars, and i was like, dude are u smoking!

SPIN stated that if Prince was a "nobody" everyone would be raving about C&D.
The same could have been said about every album he has released since 96.

OK, I'm actually excited about this album.

IT's the first one in a while where I didn't have to wait 2 years to get my hands on it. lol This indicates to me that Prince feels he has something to share with us.

Yeah, I doubt it will match the other great albums I love so much, but I don't care. With Prince, I always get something I enjoy hearing, and at least I can enjoy it for a few weeks if it's one of those albums I tire of.

Shit, he has so much material now, that I'm constantly picking up old CDs and playing them and saying "Shit! That was tight. eek "

Maybe you should choose your words more carefully kathnbrit.. in your attempt to "peace it out" you actually write;

" I´m one of the few Americans I know who've been to France and actually don't hate the French when I get home"

That sentense could be percieved as: most american hate the french people - Hate is a very strong word.. Dont talk on behalf on the american people.

There are many myths about the french people, here in europe too. I have never been to france, but the french people I met here in copenhagen are very nice. they dont speak good english tho !!! but that isnt important at all. Most american dont speak OTHER than american too.. so !!! chill out people, prince is all about unity wink

I hear ya but the words I get are "I hated the French" from fellow Americans who've been there. I was just telling you what I hear. The word is "hate" so I said it. I actually had a very different experience and tell people that. Maybe because I actually attempted to speak French when I was there, people appreciated the effort. I often was embarrased to be American there because the way they expected the French to speak English for them. But whatever. Maybe my joke wasn't so funny but I don't think it should have been received with the venom you threw at me. Nuff said. I'll go back to lurking from now on.

Murph's Planet Earth review

Okay folks...I've heard the album...And let me just go straight into it...I likes...An intersting album from the standpoint that it sounds like it was recorded in one week...Very focused...All in all this is a a rock album...The guitars and vocals are very striking...And no, it aint even on a religious kick...Its a very loose sounding album for the most part...And guys, the copy of Planet Earth is mine and I'll do with it whatever I like. I will start sending it through by e-mail to every orger... starting by the letter a. Well, here are the particulars:

Very funky indeed...But the funk is more late '70s funk than the '80s Prince-funk some of yall are clamoring for...It's like Prince was listening to "Just As Long As were Together" and "Sexy Dancer" and decided to take that classic funk disco feel and make it even more funky...The horns are killer...And that Shelby chick is doing some Mavis staples howling...Very strong track...

I had the opposite feeling
I have the impression this is more
a Woody Allen (Parade) than a Steven Spielberg (Musicology) record
more for the auteurs than for the schlockfester
rather mindbending than legstinging
rather downbeat than upbeat
rather blue cheese than red meat
rather beetle than humvee

Wrong.

American English is commonly referred 2 as "American", as it is very different from "proper" English.

Even my ancestors referred 2 it that way after they came over on the boats.

Regardless of how it's referred to in casual conversation, its still English.

You wouldn't suggest that 4 and 2 are the proper terms simply because they're used around here a lot would you?

But honestly, I am not expecting much from Planet Earth. Prince has been in a very conservative mode during the last years. His music is still good, but doesnt sound like he is challenging himself as an artist. I hope Planet Earth is a good album, but not a masterpiece. I hope I am wrong.
