I see a lot of cool things about the review. Some positive things about songs, pop/rock vibe, lots of weird, interesting, etc....

And honestly guys, do you REALLY get the full affect of a Prince album by listening to it 1 time. Take it with a grain of salt

One of the guys on schkopi.com even says they all looked at each other while listening to this tune and that they could not believe how bad it was !
One the guys says there was a long time since Prince had not come up with some horrible crap like that !

I Remember when Parade came out, there was a lot of similar criticism. I remember them saying that Parade was incoherent, that it had a lot of bad stuff on it. Life can be so nice was looked apon as a song with lots of people playing instruments at different times all clashing. P was ahead of his time.

However, Parade had KISS on it....

Don't panic, people. I remember our French exchange students in high school shocking me with their love of pastel colored shirts and Supertramp.

Just kidding. (Although they did love pastel colored shirts and Supertramp). smile

Hey, I thought you said that one of your favorites by "Prince" was "She's Always in My Hair"? As far as I can remember, that is in the genre of "Pop/Rock", so fret not, my dear! cool

What were your thoughts on albums like "Parade" and "Around the World in a Day" that actually weren't one-dimensionally funky, if funky at all?

its probably going to be more like C&D, with apparanrly only ONE funky song on it.. But it will have 4 ballads, which is 40% of the record, a HUGE chunk for a Prince record. Normally its about 2-3 songs out of 12, ie 10-20%. The other songs might be mid-tempo, and it also sounds like one of the songs is weird/bizarre, and maybe even a throwaway, but its in keeping with Prince's experimental nature.

In any case, the album will be a hit, because of the massive backing its getting and the fact it will be given away in concerts (unless they changed the rules about that one..)

MAYBE THE EARLY REVIEWS CAME OUT SO PRINCE CAN GET A FEEL OF WHAT PEOPLE THINK OF THE CD. IT WOULDNT BE OUT OF THE QUESTION FOR PRINCE TO CHANGE THE SONGS THAT ARE ON THE CD.

ANYWAY ITS ALL INTERESTING!

i think the cd is printed and ready to be shipped by now. it's only
what, 18 days before it hits european stores.

hardly enough time to listen to feedback from listening parties and
change the tracklist.

besides, i don't think prince gives a flying fuck what we think of
the tracks as long as he's happy with the disc.

and therein lies princes problem

Do you remember what the early fan reviews of TRC were like coming from the listening sessions at the 2001 Celebration? If not, let me remind you that the album was repeatedly labeled "a disaster," "unlistenable" and "the worst thing Prince has ever recorded." The online Prince community was in complete meltdown.

Of course, today, a sizable number of fans say TRC is among Prince's very best work and it's all over those "what are your favorite P albums" threads. The moral of this story: wait to hear "Planet Earth" for yourself — and then listen to it a few times — before drawing any conclusions about its merits.

Peace.

PS: I'm also reminded of Kurt Loder's review of "Purple Rain" in Rolling Stone, in which he commented that the album probably wouldn't match the commercial impact of "1999." lol
