Does Prince like to play for his fans?

No really, it's been about five years since he came to Europe and now he only goes to London and do all of the shows there. It's like he does this because he has to.

I was watching a documentary on George Michael yesterday. He said that if he could just make his music and stay at home watching the albums go to #1 al over the world, that would be his dream.

I think Prince might feel the same way. Concerts are a way of making a lot of money and getting publicity to promote the albums and all, but...

... do you think Prince likes to play for his fans?

I think he just likes to play. Otherwise there wouldn't be such a history of aftershows and Paisley Park parties/performances that don't make him squat.

I was just about to post the same thing. Prince has always had a history(since way back in thr day) of performing at atfer-shows or after-parties. It's not a question of if he likes to play for his "fans"...he just likes to play PERIOD! I think he really gets off on it. Otherwise he could just play a concert (where he would get a pay check)and then go home and go to bed! I Love U Baby, But not like I Love My Guitar!!! guitar

Ok, so he likes to play period. Do you think he prefers small crowds and does the big shows for the money?

who performs live as much as prince? who has a reputation for doing two, maybe even three gigs in one DAY? i think it's safe to say that the man loves the stage. now, does he like playing for FANS specifically? it's hard to say. i think he does, but my guess is that he likes making money even more, and fans can only line his pockets so much.

yeah, ditto to what's been said, i have to ask Jochem, are you a Prince newbie or what? seriously, because NO superstar of his caliber has EVER played as much as he does. when have you heard of MJ, Madonna, doing surprise concerts, aftershows, etc. He's sown into his fanbase like no other performance wise. Playing is how he communicates. the perfect example was this years SuperBowl "press conference" where he played instead of talking. or at the British Rock and Roll Hall of Fame speech where he said, i wish my band was here, cause i'd RATHER play. His legend is being cemented by the volume of performances he does. Tours without new albums to support them, the whole nine. that's why i trip on complaints about another tour, i'm like he JUST DID arenas two years ago.

Valid assessment. And where the cash lands after the gig is another story only he knows. lol

I think he enjoys performing period. I'm not so sure sometimes he even cares that the fans are there. lol

I mean, I've been to an after party that had maybe 200 hundred people at it tops. Not too much money to be made there. But he still played until about 4 in the morn.

The ironic thing is, Prince can raise his songs to another level live

You haven't seen him perform live, have you? I'm only asking because if you've seen him perform live you'd KNOW Prince LOVES to play for his fans! It's as natural to him as breathing!!

The last time I checked, they only folks that didn't like breathing were suicidal. Prince not liking playing for his fans...same difference!!

Ok, I know he plays a lot, that's out of the question, but for who?? I was at one of the Vegas shows (with a lot of fans) which lasted way too short. Afterwards it was almost impossible for the fans to go to the afters show as tickets had been given to buisiness relations.

As I said, its been five years since he was performing in Europe. For a lot of fans (who don't live in the states) it must be very hard to go to his shows. Now he is coming to Europe but he is only playing in London. What about the rest of Europe or the world.

I have been a fan since the Batman album. But I get the feeling that he doesn't put too much effort in going to his fans all over the world anymore...

Since about 2002, Prince makes the fans come to him.

He's only one person he can't be everywhere, some people have just got to make the effort to go to him. YOU ARE NOT HIS FRIEND

I can relate to what Jochem is saying - I live in Europe and we dont get to see him often at all, From reading the posts on this site I see the fans in the US have seen him way more than we get to see him in Europe. I am travelling to London to see him in August and I have seen him live before so i know he likes to perform and I think hes the best live performer bad none.

I dont think the issue is whether you are willing to make an effort or not, I do make the effort, but opportunities are thin on the ground!

You are right. After shows are not about making money on the spot right there.
But if money is not an issue, why is Prince giving so many tickets to business relations??

So he can keep playing shows. He doesn't have a record company that handles that stuff for him anymore.

I wrote a letter to Larry asking him this question.

He wrote me back with a letter that just said "Piss off you groady little wanker!".

I, in return, responded with a letter that read " What crawled up your ass, you massive-mustached, watch-tower-totin', one-hit-wonder, coat-tail-riding mother-fucker....?!!?

Am currently waitin' for any further correspondence....
