An Aside: Hey Rockability, I like Hall & Oates too! ^_^

Also, it's pretty obvious Prince likes boys and girls (Anna Stesia and other lyrics come to mind). I have no problem with that. I get called gay for liking Prince! It really matters not, I know who I am.

What I think though is that Prince unfortunately struggles. That could be why he's such a brilliant mind. I write songs and poetry but nothing of the calibre Prince writes. I hope he finds peace.

I wouldn't care if Prince was gay or bi. I just want him to keep making music. And to be happy. He deserves it.

The lyrics to Anna Stesia "play with anyone, boy or girl" does not imply that he is bisexual. I believe he is singing that line from either a man or woman's point of view. Besides, I thought he is/was against homosexuality; thus his problems with Wendy or Lisa. I am not homophobic; I just don't think Prince has ever been with a man.

Sorry but because I think the topic is silly does not make me or anyone else homophobic.

As an African-American I take offense to this as it would imply that I have a bias against gay people. I don't care if P is gay. I just don't buy that he has been for 30 plus years and it never came out in the public.

Just does not seem possible and I do think it is wishful thinking on the part of some orgers. Which is fine. We all can have our dreams.

Liberace never came out.

Alot of stars never came out. Alot of stars who don't wear high heels, makeup, silk stockings, and long permed hair.

These things of course don't make the man gay obviously--but dismissing any iota of a thought that if it looks like a duck, etc. it must be a duck, is kind of closed minded. shrug

Fuck Liberace!

I dont think that 'so called' problems with his bisexuality are reflecting on the quality of his music, i think that has to do with other personal aspects of his life.

And, yes, i personally think he is a bisexual, that he has slept with both men and women (early on in his career alltough), but that he in general is attracted to women more then to men and that he has recognised that.

I think you can compare him to David Bowie in that essence, Bowie has had his share of 'homosexual' experiences in the past, but feels connected to women in the first place.

Both are no 'macho's' or 'homophobic' men in essence, i think, they just use their 'feminine' aspects to express themselves artisticly and personally, thats all.

I agree with you that Bowie is bisexual (or was); no proof whatsoever that

Prince is/was. On the contrary, I think he has done more women than we could

even imagine.

To the person who said "it's like finding out your father is gay."

Come on....your father anything like P? Personally, I would be shocked to find out Prince wasn't bi.

I think she means it in the context that because she's a minority she takes offense that anyone thinks she couldn't empathize with other minorities.

This of course is a strange argument considering African Americans as a voting demographic aren't known to be champions of gay rights, but vote progressive for other reasons. (I'm not picking on African Americans folks--I just find the premise that because you're a minority, you actually support other minorities largely unsupported). I mean, I'm Asian, but I find myself supporting other minorities strictly on principle--not becuase I actually feel any connection to them or empathize with them.

Honestly, I dont believe he is gay. He avoids contact with men for the most part; he doesnt even like to shake hands with men (and I don't remember the last time he hugged a man either!). I just think Prince identifies with women better than he ever could with guys...he's too effeminite to feel comfortable around guys i guess.

There's another theory though:
He feels that he should've been born a woman. eek

It WOULD explain the heels, makeup, and the other such blatantly female attributes. Doesn't matter though, hes still one of the prettiest AND sexiest men alive, and the most amazing singer/performer ive ever seen!

You know, on Oprah he said that he went through therapy or some shit and they discovered he has a multiple personalities. And that the other "personality"--they haven't discovered the sex of it yet... meaning it was possibly a woman.

I think this is all horse shit , but that's probably Princes unique way of "coming out"

He was joking about that other personality thing, although it has some truth to it. He definitly has a kind of split personality about him, like how he was at a popular nightclub for celebs and offered the two strippers double their pay if they stopped dancing and said things along the lines of "what would your mothers think if they knew?" and "its disgraceful to demean yourselves that way"
????? Where that came from, I dont know because he and his girls are not any more innocent than the strippers, and no one knows why he was even at the club, because apparently he doesnt even like the music or talk to anyone there, but he frequents it anyways.....
He's always been a little eratic (and erotic biggrin ) though, so i wouldnt be suprised if there WAS a woman in him, or at least a wee little leprachaun thats been driving him to act strangely in public. I hope it's the leprechaun. lol

Interesting post..

Well, I would first like to qoute Sly Stone's well-worn classic line "Different strokes for different folks..." as an African-American, someone being gay, or not being gay has no affect on me...However, I think some African-Americans get a little annoyed when gays try to equate their struggles with the black experience...But that's another thread...

I don't think gays try to equate anything to the African American experience.
Though I certainly think the "gay struggle" is nothing to downplay.
The homosexual struggle as it were has been around at least back to the rise of Abraham religions in Rome, and continues to this day with 80 countries banning homosexuality, and several of those, with punishment of death.

As far as the African American population being less than sympathetic to gay rights, I don't mean this as a blanket "Every black person hates gays" type of thing as there are guys like you who couldn't care either way. But as a voting demographic, it's generally known to be true that African Americans, particularly in the West and South hold conservative social values, and was actually a strategy Republicans tried to employ in recruiting African Americans over to their party. This of course failed largely, as I've stated because African Americans aren't single issue voters, and vote progressive due to a wide range of issues.
