HOT THING

I was listening to the extended version of this yesterday and thought does this sound dated (20 years old) or could it be a hit today?

Yes it was a hit 20 years ago, probably could be a hit today, Prince's music is timeless that's why we can still go back and listen to it!

The original radio edit was widely played on the radio down south. And the remix and the original versions was played in the clubs. So while it was not a chrt hit per se it waas an underground hit.

it hit the charts. that's the definition of a "hit" and the fact that it got as high as it did, solely as a b-side, says a lot about its popularity (and more about its potential) at the time.

Most of Prince's music is "timeless", but considering all he has recorded, there is bound to be some stuff that sounds dated.

Thanks folks for your response but my point is does the song sound dated or could it sound like it was recorded recently? For me, I love the oriental- sounding synths and hard groove but I suppose the Linn drum gives the game away.
