Saw the video of the song "Poorgoo". I have never heard this song, nor did I know about the video. From which era is this song, and has it ever been released?

The Undertaker

This recording was made in a continuous single live in the studio pass in collaboration with NPG drummer Michael Bland and bassist Sonny T. Prince originally intended to give this live CD away free with 1,000 copies of Guitar Player Magazine in 1994, but was reportedly barred by Warner Bros. from doing so. Copies were leaked and bootlegged. The songs were guitar heavy versions of rock and blues numbers, including a cover of The Rolling Stones' "Honky Tonk Women" and new recording of "Bambi" (originally from 1979's Prince). The title track was a cover of a song previously given to Mavis Staples, while "The Ride", "Zannalee" and "Dolphin" would all be re-recorded future releases. A video recording of the performance is in circulation with small edits throughout the performance and "Dolphin" replaced by the official video of the song from The Gold Experience.

I think The Undertaker is overrated by fans. It's basically a rehearsal of a 3 piece at Paisley Park with cheesy effects and Vanessa Marcil pretending to throw up. A release like this makes me madder at Prince because it shows how easily it would be to record and put out so much other stuff. He probably has literally thousands of hours of material of a similar quality that could be released.

What there IS on this I think is great, but why only 40min? I suspect its a contract filler for Warners as much as anything.

the release of it on video is probably a reluctant move on warner's
part to let prince release new material without oversaturating the cd
market (a video release would not be seen as yet another new album),
and thus meeting prince somewhere halfway.

with the frustrated relationship they had at the time i think this
was just a way to try and keep everyone happy though prince would
have probably been ok to just release the album to guitar magazine
and not release the video.

I have never heard this song, but i have seen the title mentioned different times.

Till recently i always thought this was some kind of 'filthy' track, with quasi-pornographic lyrics (goo.....)

Just recently i found out the lyric was written about a co-worker of him.

this was Prince's way of challenging the stereotype of his style of music at the time when grungy stuff was popular and mainstream.
