Frank zappa was!

Music is not Olympics. Music is sound, melody, chords, rhythm, and is about one`s need to deliver feelings and emotions. Wether you do that for your very own entertainment, or to bring joy to others is something else. But basically that`s what i think music is all about. Expression. Turn your inside out.
Obviously a lot of people who like the music by Prince do not really understand that they already share with Prince what seems to be the most important thing which is i believe the
love
for music.
Olympics is : who runs the fastest, who jumps the highest and so on. Sportsworld is a very fascinating world. But again, sport isn`t all about being the best in a certain category.
Prince is very unique, you can hear the influences, yet he created his very own personal sound, he plays his own shit! And.....
It ain`t over.

Just personal oppinions, at the end of the day. If he's not, then who IS? and why? Overall, his talent is unquestionable. I don't know of anyone BETTER, put it that way. Maybe someone specialises in a particular instrument, but not EVERYTHING this guy does, not as well. He must be the best song-writer EVER, most of us would agree or else we wouldn't be here!

He was a composer. He wrote music for symphonies. His music is some of the most complicated amazing stuff ever. He only picked up a guitar at 18; he was drumming before that. He played piano and bass too but not on most records.

He smokes prince; no question. A better writer, producer, guitar player.

dont agree he smokes prince...i know that zappa admired prince's talent..i think that prince is a better songwriter...certainly in rock and pop...cant comment on zappas symphonies as i havent heard them...i would certainly say that zappa is on the same level as prince on the guitar, maybe even better...but he cant match prince's ability on other instruments...prince has the edge live as well....zappa was brilliant...but i think prince has the edge overall...

He could match prince on other instruments. He wrote parts for piano, bass, drums far superior to what prince has and could play.

I thouht the same as you until i got into zappa; i thought prince was the greatest. Prince is great though!

They adore the songs of the Beatles, just like millions of other musicians around the globe past and present. The Beatles were what i would call a perfect team, a perfect group. Dude, i`m not a even a big fan of them, but you have to stay as close to the truth as you possibly can. I already understand that you don`t like their music, that`s absolutly cool.

"be known" doesn`t have anything to do with the quality of someone`s work or his skills or his talent for music. If it did, Doyle Bramhall II would be a superstar.

And I've always contested classic connections giving someone the greencard when it comes to composing abilities. Prince made music relative to his context. Just because he didn't compose for symphonies doesn't mean he has musically inferior mind.

i know selling records isnt everything but broad appeal does count for something and prince has been both successful critically and commercially....zappa always had a cult following..no real commercial success..he had one top ten album in the us in his whole career..he was brilliant but he cant compare to prince as an all rounder...
