With a title like Planet Earth should we be excited?

I'm sorry but that title sucks. I'm scared that this is going to be some exprimental, granola, hippy shit. I could be completely wrong and I hope I am. have you all heard tracks yet? What are they like?

I agree it's not the most imaganative title ever, but you can't really judge an album by its title.

I'm suspect it's gonna be more Musicology/3121 drivel but I'm willing to wait and see and hope.

The single is OK but quite often singles are some of the strongest songs on albums, especially Prince albums, so it don't look good does it if the lead single is only OK.

At least its not raising expectations, I general get the feeling most of us are expecting a masterpiece.

All along the watchtower/best of U still raises my hope a little.

I don't think that "Guitar" is indicative of the rest of the albums' sound, and I hope not.

I can't wait for the album. I think it's gonna be great.

I thought Musicology/3121 were both highly enjoyable albums so they give me a lot of hope.

I love guitar.

Trying not to listen to it again now until I get the album.

you know i actually agree with you. planet saturn sounds like it could at least be a litle left field. something about planet earth just sounds very granola to me and safe to me.

Well, 'Lovesexy' is a really embarrassingly bad title. I mean really, it is. A title like 'Musicology' sounds like it ought to be promising, but look what happened (I now love Musicology, but it was no great innovation).

'Parade' is a bland title for an album. 'Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic' is a wonderful title for a CD and look what happened there.

Prince's album titles have never been a good guide for what the album will ultimately sound like.

I'm excited because it's a new Prince album and right now, I've only heard one song from it, so there's 9 new songs for me to hear come July 16th (three weeks on Monday - yay!)
In time, and at worst, I may come to dismiss it as Prince at his most bland. However, just like every other Prince album ever released - for the first few days, weeks and/or months after its release, it'll be the most exciting album I'll have heard in a long time. And I KNOW that eventually, in time I'll love it as part of the canon of excellence that is Prince's musical legacy.

Worrying about an album title is about as worthwhile as trying to predict the sound of a song by its title before hearing it...impossible.

Black Sweat was the first single of 3121 and that was the worst song on the album, and not really an indication of what was on 3121.

Exactly wink

I totally found the new title "Planet Earth" 2b extremely DEEP. He dug deep in2 the earth 2 come up with this one. I’m proud of Prince 2 come up with such a unique and perfect title name 4 his new album. There’s a lot 2 b said about OUR Planet Earth and those 2 words along, Planet Earth is very deep. IMHO he did the same with the Title name and song of Sign of The Time (SOTT), and what he wrote and song about back then is happening 2day and from the look of things it will be like this many years from now.

Title: Planet Earth
Think about it,

Hold your head back,
Close your eyes, and repeat after me,

I think Black Sweat is great and the best fast song on there. But I believe the first single released was Te Amo Corazon and that was not indicative of the rest of the CD.

i'm definitely excited that he's releasing something but that title is the pits sorry. let's just hope it will be a good one but imo he'll never make another album as great as Controversy which is his best album if you ask me. i like that title as well. it's straight and to the point and powerful!
