Madonna and Prince "Firsts" Overt religious imagery in lyrics - Prince
1981's Controversy album is Prince's first to mix God into his sexualised funky lyrics. From the title track's refrain of "Do U believe in God, Do U believe in U?" to the warped tale of Annie Christian. Madonna wouldn't introduce religion into her mix until 1989's Like A Prayer album, which "borrowed" and featured all things Princely in equal measure.

Using William Orbit's remixing skills - Prince
William Orbit (alongside Mark Moore) remixed 'Batdance', 'Electric Chair' and 'The Future' in 1989. Madonna didn't utilise Orbit's talents until a year later with her 'Justify My Love' single in 1990.

Using Shep Pettibone's remixing skills - Madonna
Shep Pettibone first remixed Madonna, back in 1983 for her 'Borderline' single. Prince first used Shep Pettibone on 1987's 'Hot Thing' single edit and remixes.

I would disagree with you and the use of Religion in Madonna's work. Madonna has been fully aware of the use of Religion in her work. One she has the name Madonna. Two while promoting the First Album she made references to Nuns, the Church and Crucifixes. The Like A Virgin video and album cover were full of religious symbols assoc in the Catholic Church with weddings and the Virgin Mary. She also was still sporting crosses and crucifixes. The video for La Isla Bonita features many Catholic symbols. During the Papa Don't Preach performance of WHo's That Girl Tour featured images of a Chruch and Pope JP2. You CANNOT use the name of God, or religion, to justify acts of violence, to hurt, to hate, to discriminate- Madonna
