Anxiety said: gen x had to deal with a LOT of different audio/visual formats: vinyl, 8-track, minidisc, cassettes, CD, laser disc, beta, VHS, blah blah blah...it's hard for us to get misty-eyed about gathering around the old victrola, because by the time we were in our early teens, we'd already been through a million replacement components on our stereos!
but yeah, cassettes are some fossils...i have a big shoebox full of 'em still, and i don't even know why i keep them. Yeah, I've got all my tapes too - partly for nostalgiac reasons (my B52s ones, in particular, bring back a slew of memories ) and partly because I haven't upgraded to cd with some of them. . I'd rather have a 30 minute eargasm than 60 minutes of so-so material. i'm just going by my teenaged days when i'd buy a vinyl or CD album and then immediately record it to a 90-minute cassette tape so i could listen to it on my walkman. i always wanted it to be under 45 minutes so i could fit it all on one side, but not too much under 45 minutes so there wouldn't be a lot of dead air for me to fast forward through at the end before i flipped to side b. yes, OLD SKOOL "We've never been able to pull off a funk number"

if the price of a full album goes back down to 8.99, maybe! That's the reason why you have albums with 15-18 songs because they are trying to justify the price !

I'll take an album with just one track on it if it meant him not retiring at all....Im gonna miss him 'Ive never been 1 2 hide my feelings, Baby, u blow my mind I painted your face upon my ceiling, I stare at it all the time...' http://www.myspace.com/welshmess

Prince didn't say he was going to retire. He said he was going to study the Bible and I think Prince will continue to be just as prolific if not more. Whether or not people are interested in what he has to says is up to them.

At LEAST 40 - 45 min. I think there was a time when folks would cram a CD til it was full...and LONG. That's great if you're someone like George Michael who comes out with an album once in a blue moon (Sade needs to take note with her 40 min albums once every 7 years ). IMHO 60ish min is good for me. Not too long and I feel like I got my moneys worth. Christian Zombie Vampires

yes, OLD SKOOL I so relate. If my battery was running out and I was on a long journey, I'd rewind the tape with a PEN. Nasty. It was ALL about the PEN Christian Zombie Vampires

AA batteries. wow. I'm sure I had to be really desperate to do that but it did happen a few times. My Pet Shop Boys 'Behaviour' tape would only ever play side 1 in my Walkman for some reason so I am very familiar with those tracks, especially. And I had to rewind it incessantly. And I can't imagine how much I spent on batteries over the years!

Hello,
I was surprised at first by the 10 track album. But its ok. I am glad to not have to wait two years for another album. Prince has been busy between Musicology and Planet Earth: three albums, one major tour, several smaller performances, and one divorce, all in a three to four year time span. And if I figure it right: Musicology had 12 tracks and 3 B-sides so that 15 tracks for 2004. If I lump SST, Brand New Orleans, and Song of the Heart onto 3121 thats another 15 tracks, and the 10 from PE, that 40 songs in 3 years. How many other artists have released 40 songs in three years? We are truly blessed again by his output. I am very thankful for the new album regardless of its length. Chris.

i would rather have a hour worth of music than blink and it's over approach.and the feeling of knowing there are tons of unreleased music in those vaults, 10 songs is like a sneeze in a huge tunnel.
could it b that when he announced he was going 2 b free, the studio diaherra we were all expecting has never come 2 fuition? man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Last couple of albums were too long for me.
Usually two songs into it, & I couldn't wait til it was done.
