Annie Christian Appreciation Thread

When was the last time you played this classic gem. cool
This song makes me wish I could have seen Prince during the those infamous days pre-Purple Rain.

yes rainbow headbang music
Annie Christian wanted, to be number 1
but her kingdom never comes, thy will be done
She couldn't stand the glory, she would be 2nd to none
the way Annie tells the story, she's his only son
Annie Christian wanted to be a big star
so she moved to Atlanta and she bought a blue car
she killed black children, and what's fair is fair
if u try and say u're crazy, everybody say electric chair
electric chair

Annie Christian, Annie Christ
until u're crucified, I'll live my life in taxicabs
Annie Christian, Annie Christ
until u're crucified, I'll live my life in taxicabs

Annie Christian was a whore always looking for some fun
being good was such a bore, so she bought a gun
she killed John Lennon, shot him down cold
she tried to kill Reagan, everybody say gun control
gun control

Annie Christian, Annie Christ
until u're crucified I'll live my life in taxicabs
Annie Christian, Annie Christ
until u're crucified I'll live my life in taxicabs

Liar Liar Liar! got ya in a jam
put your head on the block, somebody say ABSCAM
ABSCAM

Annie Christian, Annie Christ
until u're crucified I'll live my life in taxicabs
Annie Christian, Annie Christ
until u're crucified I'll live my life in taxicabs

I feel like this song had the vibe of being on his intendedly dark "The Black Album". It's something about this sound. Definitely his most occult.

Yeah. Me too. It sounds like it could be theme music to some crappy late 80's anime or something.

Anne Christian is deep! its dark but it captures the reality of spiritual warfare in a way that many probably don't grasp. that's where the "fear" might come from for some and/or occultic associations. its a metaphor for the different ways evil manifests itself, at that time specifically with the Atlanta child murders and the attempted Reagan assassination. i haven't listened to it in like forever, cause i don't even HAVE Controversy on CD.

Love this song!

Does someone what this line means?
"I'll live my life in taxicabs"

It's got to have a deeper meaning right? What does he mean exactly?

maybe he means he'll remain in a permanent state of "transience", non-committal, detached from the world until the evil of Annie Christian is eliminated (crucified).

cool Really love this song. The last time I played, it's been a while, about a month. Annie Christain is still the shit. I might take it out and play it today
. It's one of my top favorites from the album along with Do Me, Baby, Controversy, Private Joy, Let's Work and Sexuality.
Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

I'm glad you get those things out of it. To me, it's one of those songs that's intentionally off the wall so you THINK it's about something, but it really doesn't add up to much. shrug

like I just said, I don't think it's actually about much at all. It's got a vaguely political/spiritual mojo to it by referencing specific, obscure things, but I don't think it's written with any actual message. Rather, it's trying to sound deep while it's really not.

Great, GREAT song. A weird, underrated, classic Prince track. I try to always include this one when I'm asked to make Prince primer CD's for people getting into the man.

Without wishing to undermine; I think this is a naive song, much in the Ronnie Talk To Russia vein, but with killer instrumental. Prince wasn't at his most politically perceptive in 1981, and this is another example of his ... I'm trying not to use the word ignorance, but I'm struggling. Superb song, however, regardless of meaning.
