Which version of Guitar do you prefer??

Demo - electro, funk version
Single - Rock out version

??

I prefer the demo personally... it just has more of a vintage Prince stamp on it and I love the backing vocals on the chorus.. sounds a bit like Wendy and Lisa!! I also prefer the drum sounds and beat production... To me the single version is less complicated and slicker and maybe more how it will sound live.. and I do love it.. but the demo gets my vote.. a great one to blast out on a hot summer day!

*looks outside at drab weather... says sod it and cranks up Guitar anyway!*

I like elements of both. The first one is bouncier and more fun but the second is more fitting for today...more commercial. Of course the guitar in the second makes it, but I like the vocal performance in the first much more.

I do like the addition of things like "turn it up". He should have just EQ'd/mixed the same vocals differently for the second song.

Are you kidding? The new version a thousand times over. The original version was so crap, I couldn't even believe it when my bf played it for me. I was expecting and awesome rock song (you know, with a name like "Guitar" it gets you thinking), but it was just.... so completely crap and forgettable. Lame-ass beats. Uninspired performance. Super annoying effect on the vocals. Not enough guitar! Really fucking awful, actually. It's like "Get Yo Groove On" being called "Violin" but worse, if you can imagine such a thing.

Agree!!

I was expecting nothing much from this new album after hearing the first version of guitar and his other new song some months ago (Song of the heart).

With this new version of Guitar released I'm looking 4ward 2 Planet Earth!

Try google searching prince guitar and you may find it. I was able to find a torrent with both versions and a vid of the commercial. Good luck smile

First version. Normally I am all about the rock, and there are things about the second version I like a lot, but the first version is a little bit better, IMHO.

Actually, the best version is probably somewhere between the two...

I don't like the changed last verse in the new version. Why is he telling her to go to (hell)? It makes no sense and it's not cool.

The first version is a hundred times better. it sounds fun, natural, spontaneous. Like he's having fun. it's sounds like vintage Prince. The new album version sounds like he thought to himself, 'oh, I should do a version of this with just guitar and people will like it because it's rocking' but that just isn't the case. It sounds clunky and contrived a bit like Fury.

In my opinion, prince does electro funk a whole lot better than he does rock. And perhaps electro funk is just far better than rock period. Rock is kind of uncool. The weird off the wall solo in the original is just fantastic too.
I'm testing postive 4 the funk

What about the first version makes it Electro Funk?

I wouldn't describe it as Electro Funk.

More a little quirky pop ditty.

I like them both, but the new version is my pick.
