Will P.E. sales in UK be poor?

If he gives 400.000 copies at the concerts, who will buy the cd in the stores?

He sold 400,000 tickets, that's unbelievable isn't it? When did Prince become so popular in the UK once again? From the Super Bowl and 3121? Back in the NPSoul days, no one gave a shit. Remember Doug E. Fresh, the Come On video, Larry G, ahhhhh man. 10 years later and Prince is on the top of his game again.

I think 'Planet Earth' will be more popular as a result.

If 400,000 people in the UK all have a copy (which they certainly will with 21 sold-out dates at a 22,000 seat arena) then they are going to talk about the CD to other people, more people will be aware Prince has a new CD out etc.

As Prince has sold over 400,000 tickets in the UK, I think the time is RIPE for him to have another hit either single or album or both.

Prince wasn't selling this level of tickets at his European peak in 1992-93. Concert-wise he is MORE popular now than he was then.

It will be interesting to see how well it "sells" over there. It could go either way I guess, with so many people recieving a copy at the concert.

But that's what it's all about right? Getting the "music to the people". The charts may not reflect it, but he's certainly going to be no.1 at the bank!

I'm pretty sure 'give-away' albums count as sales. Wasn't that how Musicology did so well in the US album charts?

So it's going to be his biggest 'selling' UK album for a long long time.

after Musicology, they changed the rules, because a bunch of other artists were starting to do the same thing. Musicology's give-away sales were grandfathered in after the rule change though.

in the UK, it won't count. they have very strict rules with their charts, almost to the point of making the chart irrelevant.

Maybe Planet Earth will not be the most selled album of the year, but it will be the most gifted (by Prince himself... ).

Long as I get my hands on a copy, don't care how sales do anywhere.

Very true. Beck's last album didn't even chart in the UK, just because of the cover artwork.

Why not? 21x20.000 is more or less 400.000.

We'll see! All I'm saying is that even IF it is 21 shows at 20,000 seats each (?) Prince fans have NOT bought them all. Even IF 400,00 tickets are sold, less than half of them have actually been paid for privately.
A MAJORITY of the tickets are being hold by ticket touts/scalpers, tour companies and other general ticket agencies. I have seen MANY coach/ticket packages for sale, for example, advertised by local companies. This is happening all over the country.

Sold, doesn't mean EVERY seat will be filled on the night. Not Prince's problem at all, but TOO MANY out to make easy money.

And to answer original Q, don't think Prince is too bothered by chart position, he will still get the same pay-out, by including them with tickets. He won't lose. Publicity in general, and all the great feed-back from the gigs will ensure he makes an impact in the charts anyway.
