Why are you so excited for Planet Earth?

Yes, I am talking to you.

The Prince fan who seems eternally disappointed that the new Prince album doesn't take you in a time machine and make your life how it was in 198whatever. I am talking to those who always imagine a new Prince album being one way based on the titles--and then turn around a bitch endlessly when it is finally released. What keeps you going?

I love the hype and anticipation before a new Prince album, but I always prepare for the split in the fanbase and the onslaught of complaining that Prince has once again "lost it"...

I love the fact that Prince is doing his OWN thing! I hope he never stops.

Addiction.

Prince at one point was placed on a pedestal by some. But he fell off. Hard.

He was a musical savior and then he was horrible. Apparently it happened overnight.

But they don't quite have the will to quit him completely (see even authors of books).

Quiting him completely would mean only talking about the pedestal music and not sneaking a peak at the new music to see if it's like the music of 20 years ago.

Just watch the "I'm quitting Prince" threads pop up over the coming weeks. If only they could quit his ass.

It would be so much easier to concentrate on what does move you. But I'm not king (nor do I want to be), so keep on putting yourself through the pain.

At this point the pain might even be of comfort to them.

That's how addiction works. Even in the face of mounting negative consequences, you still seek out the high.

At least this is safer than other additions (drugs or alcohol, for example). smile

I'm not one of the ones who's seemingly been dissappointed with everything he's released since Sign O' the Times so I don't think i'm your target demo with this posting.
"Why'd I waste my kisses on you baby?" R.I.P. Prince You've finally found your way back home. Well Done.

I'm just happy that I will get to hear new songs and new arragments and a new wrinkle / ripple in the development and creativity that is Prince.

I'm not really excited about it. At least not in the sense of how I got excited when I picked up the old 80's singles and read "from the forthcoming album..." excited

But I am mildly excited in the sense that there is new music and we didn't have to wait two years for it this time. Seems he's picking up the pace again. Maybe he's refound his Muse? maybe?

No replies from the "usual suspects" yet? lol

I'm looking forward to Planet Earth But I never get excited by the hype, speculation, rumors or even the silly clues or hints. I get excited when I play the cd and actually hear Prince's voice and music because to me, he has not lost anything. Leaving some things behind and moving on means evolution IMO.

Maybe my diverse tastes in music has something to do with it, but my attitude is always "okay Prince, where we goin' this time? cool I'm seldom let down because I don't hold onto "expectations". I prefer to flow with whatever he chooses to express at a given time. That way my experience remains fun and interesting.
Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

i'm young/was too young to appreciate everything great and wonderful he put out previous (minus the recent stuff which i consider good). so i'm anything but eternally disappointed. the anticipation's kinda killing me lol

i guess i'm just not as critical.
