Dont get me wrong, i love Princ funkin it up, but for a guy who can do it all, his FUNK is stuck at this point. Its time for a lyric driven album, and Prince playing some guitar, his sampling/programming needs to be left behind just once, not that its a bad thing for him, its just being overused to death on the last two studio albums.

Sorry, but funk sounds only good from prince imo at the moment so i welcome any funk contribution

no no no! You can never have too much funk! He's had a few funky songs scattered here and there over the last few albums, but it's been quite a while since he put out an album that was mostly funk. If anything we need *more* funk.

yeah funk is old and tired and a limited and confining genre.
He needs more Jazz-Rock on the album to stretch his artistic boundaries

things like XENOPHOBIA hAD ME EXCITED then he come with james brown imitations

let it go Prince! This aint 1977 its 2007! Put some new shit in there....if he could do what pharell and questlove are doing he would be totally relevant to the masses while still satisfying the hardcore base who is waiting for the next DOROTHY PARKER!

People READ the post, IM NOT complaining about Prince doing FUNK, shit i've seen him in concert 73 times , own all the albums, new funk crap, jewelry, bootlegs etc... so to say "if u dont like it dont buy it" is moronic. Im talking about the groove Prince seems to be stuck in with his albums, HE isnt mixing it up like he could. When i hear his FUNK songs now im still hearing drum loops he was using back on New Power soul, thats what im talking about, his groove is stuck, at least in the studio, live on stage its another story, but in the studio he seems stuck at times. AND NO im not one of those people who say "I wish he could do another Sign o the times" I could care less about PAST glories, thats all they are PAST!, Great, yes, but let it go already. Im talking about now, every so often Prince gets stuck, whether its his Rap faze or Instrumental Faze, he just doesnt seem to be able to "consistently" write a strong album of Lyrics and Music.

Prince and rap don't mix!
If you want rap, listen to the little ones, lil wayne, lil boosie or lil whoever. Prince doesn't belong in the category of the little ones. Don't let his size fool you. He is way better than that.

hey..they put many other words in between the bitches andhoes to even it out! biggrin
You're right, theres a lot more than bitches and hoes. Besides all the sex and violence we forgot the all-time fave n-word. And let's not forget, that most women in rap-videos are portrayed as dumb-ass, pole-swinging, booty-clapping, ass-shaking sextoys. Takes a lot of talent to make a video like this. If you've seen one, you've seen them all. Very classy!!!

This thread reminds me of the old saying "less is more." But if "LESS funk" is more, then imagine how much more "MORE funk" would be.

Savvy?

I just had to help you out because if these aren't the words in bold that you "MEANT" to say, then, WOW!!! He was great on "The Carter". Hell, he's even doin' alright, now. But, he's a bit overrated. He has still yet to surpass his influence in "Jay Z" when "Jay Z" was at his best (During the periods of "Reasonable Doubt" and "The Blueprint"). I could right his lyrics down. I might even be able to freestyle something in allusion to his style and swagger. In the end, he ain't nuthin' special. AND THAT ESPECIALLY GOES FOR "Mr. BOOSIE BADAZZ"!!! All of them will go in up in flames for this blasphemy of "Hip-Hop Pioneer": Kool Herc".

See....this is why I got pissed as hell back in 1982 when I heard "Little Red Corvette" being played on pop radio. We never heard remarks like this from Prince fans back when Prince was being played on R&B radio only. lol

I think it has more to do with crap like "Illusion, Coma, Pimp & Circumstance," "Life O' The Party," "Get On The Boat," and "Everyday Is A Winding Road" being passed off as "funk" on many of his more recent albums. If that's what passes for "funk" on a Prince album, then it's better that he just doesn't bother, and just leave it at the title tracks from the last 2 albums. If that's all the funk he's got, then don't bother trying to add any more just to make it a "funky" album.
