Was Prince an MJ-fan when he was young?

I was just thinkin'.. Since they were born in the same year, and since MJ was already a big star before Prince was releasing his first stuff.. was MJ an example for Prince?

I heard some rumours about Prince being at the recording studio when MJ was recording Off The Wall. Also when MJ was scoring hits with his brothers, Prince really started getting into music.

So, one simple question: was Prince an MJ-fan when he was young?

PS: please no Prince VS MJ discussion, i'm just interested

All biographies confirm that, as a child, Prince was mesmerized by the subtle vocal stylings and dance moves of Tito, but dismissed young Michael as a one-mittened, show-boating drag on the Jackson 5's potential. nod

he had to be, they are around the same age. when the J5 premiered in the late sixties-earlie seventies every black kid in that age group identified with them, prince was one of those kids. he wasnt wearing a purple jacket with eyeliner saying "i'm gonna take that micheal to school". he was just a kid.

Didn't you see his bush...I read in DMSR that Prince wanted to succeed like the J5...I say mission accomplished.

get the hell outta that box! we gotta teach u a lesson! lol lol

Back to the first post, Prince DID visit Michael when he was working on Off The Wall, but when you have two 19 year olds who are extreme introverts in the same room, they're not gonna be real comfortable lol
They have gotten along over the years, though and have never talked bad about each other, which is a true rarity these days in the industry

nod

Occasionaly gentle teasing from Prince's end, but he does that to everyone. I wouldn't go so far as to call them bestest best buddies, hangin' out at the Ranch on weekends, but there's a mutual respect between the two.

Prince has said that he liked some of The J5's music but he's never said he was a fan.

Well, Prince's side is more obvious.
