Okay, not knowing what Planet Earth's going to be about or what it'll sound like or anything...

This is the third album in a row released on a major with a view to sell to the masses.

Now, just looking at the titles Musicology, 3121 and Planet Earth.

I have a theory;

Musicology - that is to say Music, represents life. It's music that drives Prince and music makes us move, makes us think and makes us sing along. Basically, it makes us react and in a way shows that we are alive. It shows we have soul.

Now, the ambiguity of the title 3121 seems to hint at a spiritual thing, something to encourage us to search for it's meaning and maybe search for the meaning of other things even; God, Jehovah, Darwin's theory, whatever. Certainly, many people here on the Org have been trying to uncover its meaning and some people have come up with some very interesting theories that have gone way beyond certainly anything I've thought about the title.

And now, Planet Earth. Okay, I've not heard the album and have no idea of it's lyrical content or theme. However, by going by the title alone, we now have a title that represents the physical reality. Planet Earth is where we live, no matter what we think 3121 means or whether or not music proves we have soul.

So, I'm wondering whether or not these three album concepts were conceived by Prince as a trilogy from the word go and his intention was to get the concepts heard by as many people as possible.
Musicology = life and the soul.
3121 = the spiritual side of human nature.
Planet Earth = the physical reality that we live in.

After all, the Musicology room at the NPGMC was there a year or so before the album's release and the 3121 concept was around long before the album's announcement. As if Prince had the titles of the albums in his head long before their releases. Now Planet Earth seems to be a new idea, but I'm not going to let possible facts get in the way of my wild speculation.

Anyway, just some crazy ramblings from me to encourage debate and/or watch this thread sink to page 2 within a couple of hours.

I have a theory I am calling "THE BIG LOOP". In which everything that is happening, has happened before just a little differently each time...it also keeps some of the elements from the previous times before. I think something is trying to be accomplished, but everytime it gets through the loop something goes wrong. I also think PRINCE may have this knowledge, but needs to keep it to himself as if anyone knew, it would jeapordize the "mission". I think this is why he says to Mani "If you make that call, it'll be history repeating itself all over again". Meaning he KNOWS that once Mani makes that call it starts the beginning of the end. Everything Prince has done up to that point is for the "mission".

At least when I look back on this thread I can say that there was one person who read what I'd written and responded accordingly. And if it stops just one person from ignoring my threads, then it's all good.
