Daisy Chain = Family Name?

Anybody else notice the many similarities between these two songs? Sorry if this has been discussed before. I think "Family Name" (without the intro) is a much improved-upon remake of "Daisy Chain."

'the daisy chain' beats the living crap out of 'family name'.

"Family Name" has many more variations, an awesome-sounding chorus, some cool breakdowns, "the spit!," and a killer guitar solo . What makes "Daisy Chain" better? DVS' rap? The fuzzed-out bass? The lyrics? Because it's not on TRC? Or just because you said so? I heard a 20-minute version and it was pretty much all the same. And the good parts are now in "Family Name."

These are both great tracks and after playing em back 2 back I agree they have certain similarities. For whats its worth, I agree Family Name is an improvement, its a fantastic track and one of the main reasons why I can't understand people who don't like the TRC.

They seem structurally different to me, but I've never played them back to back. Family Name mops the floor w/ the Daisy Chain, IMO...

Chill Jasziah! i just prefer it that's all.i don't generally like songs that take 3 minutes to get going. Is all that crap he seems fixated on really necessary at the beginning of Family name? 'sing a simple song'

IMO it spoils a good song.

The build is so good though! I used to think it was too long too until I fell in love w/ the song. Now the build up is great to me, quite FUNKY too... biggrin

Very true! They're very alike. The drumbeat is basically the same.. but I like Family Name better.. and actually I like the long instrumental intro > it could do without the computerized monologue...

Jon

Cant say I care much for either of the songs. I skip family name entirely on the rare occasions that I play the album. I dont think ive even listened to the daisy chain all the way through except when its just on in the background... Certainly not during a 'get deep and really listen' session.

Theres something lacking in both of them...

Cherryloon, I was being a bit tongue-in-cheek... I rarely say anything in anger, and I do respect other's opinions. "Daisy Chain" is definitely funky, especially when the beat is bouncing off the floors and walls of a small club like the Fillmore in San Francisco. wink But I think "Family Name" is a bit more fonky.
