You mean the album version or the one we've already got from Verizon?

It's the whole song... it fades a bit early 4 my taste though. 3:36.

OK. It's official. It does Rock, but I prefer the original version. It is far more... er... Princely.

This has been happening to me for years. I get early versions of songs or songs that have been in the can for years. Then they get released and they're missing something. Which is funny, 'cause the production is always better.

Not at all.

From what I know, the new album will please us "old-schoolers", and should be very "Princely"...

The original version is sonically more interesting... the slightly "ATWIAD" sounding synth sounds, the quirky Bass Guitar part, the drum programming, and the panning effect on the voice.

the version i've had for about a week ends at 3:46 and sounds as if it's faded because it leads into another song. can't really tell for sure, but that's my impression.

YeaH that's the same one... it's like the guitar is leading into the next track. The MP3 is pretty good quality.

What about U, Raze? Which version do U like better?

yep, you've replicated my thoughts exactly. New version rocks, BUT..the old one just had that mid 80s almost b-side like quirkiness that no one apart from Prince can do. ATWIAD and Hello is where it was taking me. It surprised me a great deal coz I really thought Prince had lost that sound and gives me a lot if hope for the new album.

the new version by far. the original version is maybe one of my least favorite Prince songs ever. actually, that's not quite true. it's maybe the least memorable Prince song ever. i hate the treatment applied to his vocals. i hate that it has very little to do with the title of the song. and i hate the generic sub-Emancipation beats lol

the new one, on the other hand, rocks.

oh, also, about the fade out. if you notice, there's a riff that's repeated at the very end of the fade-out. i wonder if that's how the song ends (but if so, why fade it out) or if it goes into the next track on the album, and this is just sort of an "echo to fade" sort of ending that the single version of "I Would Die 4 U" got.

hmmm

hopefully, the album version is longer and this is just the point where they decided to cut it for the single.

Yeah, that would pretty much mirror my opinion.

Intellectually speaking, the first one might be more Prince, but it's terribly boring. It belongs on "Rave". It's produced by old Prince and it sounds like old Prince, but it's one of his weakest tracks I've encountered.

This new track has got to be the biggest difference I've ever heard from one version to the next (probably would happen all the time if I lived in the studio).

It's fantastic and I want to play it again. Listen to the guitar solos.

It proved me dead wrong and I love to be proved wrong. You can make greatness, even out of fodder.

Listen to him huff and puff about 3 minutes in. That bastard knows he's bringing it home. razz

We can only hope he'll bring that second guitar solo completely out on an official recording.

And I'm not partial to the guitar. The Extended "Girl" is magnificent.

You're talking about the "Full Version" of "Guitar" as being the one released on V-Cast music last week, right?
