Alright, some people here feel like they got stiffed out at Paisley this past Friday night. Been there, felt that.
I wasn't there for this last one-but i've been out there close to 40 times now over the past 8 or 9 yrs, and i can see it both ways...

For one, a live show was implied-not guaranteed- by the npgmc newz item "B ready 2 sweat, and the camera's may be rollin'..." Sounds like a Prince jam to me, right?
So it sucks to run out to PPark, pay $7, and be disappointed not seeing the man play, especially standing there for 4 hours waiting and waiting...

Which leads me to my second point: why stand there for 4 hours, waiting and waiting, hardly moving a muscle, and expect a live show? Go check out any live shows of Prince on your VHS tapes. See any shows where the crowd is just standing there(see Emancipation show PP '96 with 100 industry corpses)? If so, do you see Prince enjoying himself??

Of course not. P feeds off the crowd's energy...and if they're moping around like zombies, i can see why he didn't play. It's a party FOR HIM, TOO. He's not just doing it because of his health, he wants to enjoy himself with people who are enjoying themselves.

I get so embarrassed at those late nite parties when 5 people are dancing and the remaining 95 ppl just stand at the stage staring out into nothingness. Shit, i'm 33 and white and i still dance to his groove.

Now, go back to your live VHS tapes and check out his better shows...see anyone dancing their asses off? Of course you do, because they love good music and it makes 'em wanna shake their groovething...and that's when P gets the nod to play.
They don't call it dance music for nothing.

The thing is... it was difficult to cheer on a performance that wasnt happening...It just didnt feel genuine. I felt like Prince was watching somewhere, laughing his ass off.
I had fun with the people I went with, and it's not like I didnt still have a good time...Just was difficult to act like i was at a show when I wasnt.

I'd say probably 1/2 the crowd (including me) was dancing. When you only have 80-100 people, that ain't many dancers...I think the nite would've been much better had he done it in the MusicClub room. 80 people in there feels like a crowd. 80 people in the soundstage, is, well, kinna embarrasing...

You're right, we would have to be there to know exactly what happened. I wasn't and made that known.
Now that said-I was discussing the Paisley parties in general...and my comments weren't directed at people who go to the dance party to have a good time, so they shouldn't be offended by this thread at all.

Also, people are failing to mention that DJ Dudley (who may well be the worst dj ever) promised that Prince would take the stage after they were done filming.

"If you can pretend to dance to Prince now we will give you the real thing later".

I don't think anyone is really complaining about paying $7 I think everyone is just getting tired of Prince pulling his Prince acts.

People who don't live in Minnesota of course think it would sound real great just to get into Paisley Park, but when you have been out there HUNDREDS and HUNDREDS of times (As I have) there is nothing special about it anymore so of course my viewpoint is going to be different.

I can totally relate to that. I've been burned more than a few times going out there. LM, you probably know as well as i do, you have to go to Paisley with no expectations, which sucks, but that's always been my Paisley experience. LOL

But hey I'm sure I'll be back out there again next time they announce that Prince will play. But I must admit I will no longer change plans to attend Paisley as I once did because it's just not worth it anymore. If I'm not doing anything yeah it's a worthwhile gamble, but not if concrete plans are already made.
