gotta shake this feeling i have recently heard this song and absolutely loving it.
Can anyone tell me what year its from? I'm guessing 1983/84 as it sounds very much like purple rain musically.

It IS Purple Rain, actually. It is Prince and the Revolution rehearsing Purple Rain and he´s doing some ad-libs instead of the real lyrics, with a few elements from Another Lonely Christmas thrown in ( "....remember the time we swam naked in your father´s pool ?" etc. ).
I also used to believe that a proper acetate or even promotional copy of this song existed and created a thread about this about a year ago but former org member Neversin ( oh how I miss him around here) explained to me that a promotional copy never existed. I heard that rumor in the very early 90s but it obviously wasn´t true. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

May/June "84" Rehearsal for the June 7th, 1984 First Avenu Concert Added Notes: There is aprox 80 minutes of this rehearsal floating around. Pretty good quality, and a great rehearsal.. [Edited 6/11/07 14:20pm]

This is from the infamous "Neon Rendezvous" bootleg, my alltime favorite ...contains gems such as the 14 min. version of Noon Rendezvous ( sung by Prince), the 14 min. version of Something In The Water ( GREAT version, heavy guitar, drastically rearranged), and Erotic City ( also guitar heavy but with a few edits , ...."....All the Critics.....!") .
It came in different versions, some had the bassline of Climax on it, some did not. The vinyl version supposedly contains even longer versions ( Noon Rendezvous is said to be three or four min. longer). Keep in mind it´s called Neon Rendezvous while the song itself is Noon Rendezvous. Prince probably will never even come close to comprehending just how much his listeners love this rehearsal recording. It´s a sick rehearsal, and makes one wonder how many of these raw gems he´s sleeeping on. I want to know the lyrics to Our Destiny "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

Great review - and you're right: this is an absolute classic! I think that version of 'Noon Rendezvous' is simply breathtaking; one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard by him. And that is a killer version of 'Something In The Water...'. One of my favourites too.

That "....sitting in this café..." line is my favorite part....beautiful ! " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! How did u come about hearing this none released song? Prince has so many songs I never knew exist until I came on the org. I have most of his release music except 4 Girl 6, One Nite Along (Piano version) Exodus, and 1 or 2 others I can't think of at the moment . Whatever happen 2 Neversin? I miss him 2

I miss him 2 Ohhhh, now I feel flattered ! Thank you so much ! So someone enjoys reading my posts ? I also enjoy reading certain orgers´posts, for instance MetalOrange, padawan, of course the one and only Langebleu, onenitealone, Skywalker..the list goes on. Unfortunately, Giotto and Neversin rarely post here anymore. I´ve been into Prince´s music since the age of twelve but kinda lost interest in the late 80´s and then rediscovered him through a good friend of mine who made me a mixtape and who recommended me some albums, and we also went to many shows together, so I´ve seen lots of shows and even went to Paisley Park in 2002. Bootlegs are a double edged sword but I know that Prince understands our desire to have them, he once said this and compared it with his own admiration for James Brown´s music and the feeling of really wanting to have more music by your favorite artist. I can relate to how he and his camp feel about bootlegs but the thing is that most people who buy or bought bootlegs still buy every legit release anyway, some friends who used to buy bootlegs bought every release twice or four times anyway, in different versions ( US pressing, UK pressing, Japan pressing etc.) and there´s really no need for him and his company to freak out that much. Even most people who download leaked stuff still buy the real deal anyway, and if it wasn´t for those old school bootlegs I probably wouldn´t be that much of an admirer of his whole body of work. The bootlegs , whether live recordings or rare, unreleased songs, just add to the mystery and to his legacy and someone seriously needs to sit down and talk about this with him. I once had a chat with Eric Leeds about this...and it was very interesting ....and funny. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

It makes me wonder just how Prince views his legacy, sometimes. Of course, what he does with it is completely up to him... but considering how much he loves the $$$s, it surprises me that he doesn't release the archive material. The fans would lap it up! But, hey, it's Prince... what can you say??
