My Prediction: "Guitar" will go to #1

This song is pure pop. Commercial as hell. It's very polished. He's very sharp in the video. And Verizon is gonna do their thing with it. Remember "Vertigo" and itunes?
I'm just glad that he's wailing on that axe of his.

Yeah. The kids in my class (I teach high school) are already asking me, "Ms. S. do U have that new Prince song? It's kinda hot." The "mainstream kids" who don't normally listen to Prince, but might pick up something on the radio are a good indicator... they just got that much from the commercial and wanted to hear more. thumbs up!
I only have the 3121-download version on my iPod, but the kids played that and liked it. I told them to check out the video on YouTube. biggrin

Wow. You guys have a lot more faith in a) Prince, b) radio, c) the label, and d) the audience than I do.

It would be nice if "Guitar" was a hit. It deserves to be. 10 to 15 years ago, it might have been. I just do not see it happening in 2007.

Point well taken...
I was just pointing out that the kids that don't generally listen to Prince were asking me for it this week... shrug

Personally, I could take it or leave it. I was kind of annoyed at how much I paid for the download orginally. cool

I don't mean to be an ass about it, I am just tired of getting my hopes up and then a few weeks into the release of a single, nobody at radio gives a shit.

Believe me, I am the guy that actually calls stations to request songs only to have the guy on the other end say in an awkward tone, "Uh, yeah, we'll try to get that on for you." *click*

(ie. The Gr8est Romance, The Work, Musicology, Fury)

If it happens it would be a nice surprise but a surprise none the less smile

(why do us fans want him to have a hit so bad?)

Despite the naysayers, I have a funny feeling about this one. Funny in a good

way, that is. I also think it will hit the top. He has had many songs that

deserved to be chart-toppers and were not; "Guitar" just seems to have a tonne

of momentum behind it.

I'm not even sure why it is important to me. I just know that it is. I think

it's just the feeling that we want him to get the respect that he deserves as a

living legend. If people see and hear how great he is, this helps with

his legacy. He may not want or care about hitting the top of the charts, but

it's always nice to see a song of his climbing up there.

I love me some Prince and I'm not a hater by any means but here's what I'll say to the prediction: From your mouth to God's ear.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I've been waiting to say "I told you so" for so long I can't even remember. I hope it happens with Guitar. It's time.

I doubt it, u have to remember there is a big difference between U2 and Prince and where they are in terms of mass appeal, though Prince has re-gained his "mainstream appeal" that he lost during the name change, u2 at the time of "Vertigo" where coming off there biggest selling album, and also there biggest selling tour, plus U2 has a wider appeal, not slighting Prince thats just the way it is, for that reason alone i dont think Guitar is a number one hit or close.

While the melody is catchy, the lyrics are weak. It's a throwaway.
