Parade, Dirty Mind, SOTT, and Lovesexy are my fav IMHO, the troika of Parade-SOTT-Lovesexy is the greatest 3-album run in Prince's career from an artistic standpoint. Throw The Black Album in there, as well as the Dream Factory/Crystal Ball/Camille material, and you could say the period of '86-'88 is as great as any popular artist in virtually any other era for any other artist around (or, at least, say it and not get completely laughed out of the room). That was back when a Prince release was an "event," so to speak. And they were clownin' him on black radio. Not to mention the "majority" stations. I said that to say I know where you're coming from. Mavis Staples has said that P talked to her about the cover aaround the time of the release. She said that he was troubled that folks "didn't get it." I don't believe P is that naive. He KNEW it would cause a stir. That's why he did it. Sure, concept-wise, it fits in with the theme of the album. But it was geared to shock. P, during all of the 80's, was all about shocking people. Dez has said P used that phrase all the time. And P was big on doing what other folks, (especially other black artists) wouldn't do. He called that "being sick". If he thought it was "sick", then it was all go. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."
