There's also a bit where he sings "lay down my heart, yeah I'll feel the power" where he really..croaks...the words and it sounds really painful on his voice. Otherwise, I love it. The beginning where the music cuts out just as he sings the first line is beautiful as is the start of the second verse. I'll close my eyes Then I won't see The love you don't feel When you're holding me jeeze im just welling up after reading those lines!!!

That´s my favorite version..you mean that MTV Unplugged version, right ? I've never heard the unplugged version. I have it on Ladies & Gentlemen: The Best of George Michael. (GM was my first crush--loved me some Wham!) Is it George Michael: Unplugged or is it an unplugged of various artists?

I´m talking about the version he did on MTV Unplugged, with his mom sitting in the audience. Great concert ! Maybe your version is the same ? I don´t know..... I doubt it's the same version--I just played mine and can hear piano and drums, at least.

It's my favorite part, along with everything after the talking part. The screams always send chills down my spine. Simply marvelous. The "between your thighs" part doesn't bother me. It's just very Prince.

Prince's version is sad testament to him not understanding the written word. what happened to this man who could tell such beautiful emotional stories with his voice that he misses soo horribly on this song?
its pathetic...disappointing...and despicable. Space for sale...

I love Prince's and Bonnie's version.
But after all of the raves that George M's version has here - I'll have to check that out. I've never heard it. As a matter of fact, I didn't even know he had covered the song at all....

I disagree.
Bonnies version is much better. Its like Prince didn't get the subtlety of the original version, spoiling the lyrics with his 'sexy talk' at the end of the song.

Sad but true. He gave it a good college try. Bonnie's version is better because of her vocal arrangement along with Bruce Hornsby on the piano.

its pathetic...disappointing...and despicable. I seriously don't understand how ya'll say he doesn't get it? When I listen to it I can hear that he gets it very well. When it comes to slow songs, Prince has only two settings: Melodramatic overtures and seduction. "I Can't Make You Love Me" is neither. It's about losing hope, accepting the painful reality that your love will never be returned. It's about failing at love, being unworthy of love, and Prince isn't up to it. I think his very constitution repels the idea of giving up and accepting defeat. Prince just can't summon the humility to sing about feeling unloveable and inadequate, how shattering that is, and that there's nothing he can do about it. The sex verse he inserts betrays the very spirit of the song.

I don't even mind him putting the sex spin on it, but my problem w/ his version is the same problem I have w/ that whole album - FAKE INSTRUMENTS His version doesn't hold up well musically, but I like the WAY he sings it...
Bonnie's is #1, I like GM's too...

I Love it also! I usually close me eyes and relax to this song...his voice soothes me.

Bonnie's is #1, I like GM's too... I feel like if R. Kelly had sung this song in 1996, this is exactly what it would have sounded like. Musically and lyrically. And that is never a good thing. I rarely listen to his version cuz it's too sterile-sounding to me.
I prefer the original and George Michael's version.

I kept seeing the preference for George Michael, so I went to my shelf because I realized that I do own it. I just gave it a listen...
