On the NEWPOWERSOUL album all the way @ the very end, he has this little songy thingy N which he keeps saying "Y did I waste my kisses on U baby?" w/ sum funky music behind it 2!

the song is about dat. NPS is underrated, and has one of the most controversial autobiographical songs he has made 2 date.

If this song is about his Love Affair for Mayte well,then I think we all know he was hurt and he felt used by her. Well in any case he definitely is over that one ,feeling like she was a waste of his time.

"The One" had a beautifully choreographed video by Mayte. Wasn't Prince still deeply in love with her at the time of NPS's release?

I don't have the NPS album anymore and I don't even remember the song. But if it's as described it could easily be a metaphor for the death of their marriage. Anybody who has paid attention to Prince's lyrics through his entire career knows he uses metaphors all the time. If there's an ambulance I don't see that it correlates to the baby, as it turned out.

So, let me get this straight, some of you believe this song is like Prince saying he only married Mayte to have a child and since she couldn't produce a healthy baby it's her fault and he no longer wants to be with her because of that? And then to add to Mayte's devastation of losing her child, Prince would add insult to injury by saying he wasted his kisses on her?! I say, No way! He wrote many beautiful songs for her. I don't think he'd deny her so cruelly.

I think he's fantasizing... it's all in his mind... maybe has something to do with what Natasha's been talking about lately... hmmm... so yeah, in a way he probably feels guilty for cheating (with his mind). Never Never Mind.

Couldn't this song be inspired by a movie of some kind? Why do we assume it's about Mayte or his Child? Strange,but if it's about Mayte he is calling her a cheap Whore. Pantyhose and cheap perfume! What about the Dark Room he let her Smother? He didn't kill anybody let alone Mayte you know. If it is about a dancer fling he had well who knows. Just because he writes a song doesn't mean he experienced everything he has written. He is an artist with a Wonderful Imagination ever hear of that? Yeah, I agree, Natasha. Prince doesn't hang out with whores, does he? I think he's talking about some passing fantasy (kinda like "319") and may even be writing about a small scene of some movie. Definitely not about Mayte. Bitter songs about Mayte came later.

Why do people always assume his songs are about who he's with @ the time?? Can't the man reflect? Imagine? I'm not saying they can't be (clearly @ times they are) but damn, y'all, they don't have to be all the time...

I got the same idea about this song.

He made a point of using his babies heart beat on one of the songs on Emancipation. I think he even talked about it in an interview.
Then there is a very similar sounding heart beat on this song, which stops !

The 2 songs coming so soon after one another, one song before and one after the death of their baby (and their break up), does make me wonder what he's singing about !

Of course, I hope he's just singing about having a broken heart.
